The John O’Shea-trained AWESOME WONDER (best odds currently $1.70 with Ladbrokes) has come back full of beans and looks a genuine chance for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Galileo filly had her first Australian start (after 31 weeks off the scene, where she broke through for her maiden win, here on a Heavy 10 that day. She ran her last 600m, 5.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 6 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. She can only improve on that run and today’s conditions look ideal for the three-year-old. She will take beating here.

Another from the O’Shea stable is DUKE OF GORDON (best odds currently $1.90 with Palmerbet) who lines up here looking just as much a winning chance as his stablemate in race 6 and looks poised to land the hat-trick today. Last start, the Dissident gelding came off his maiden win on a Heavy 10 here when he made it back-to-back wins in the same conditions, taking out a Class 1 Hcp over the mile. He put more than four lengths on them that day, racing on speed with 58kgs. Today, he carries a little more weight with Reece Jones in the saddle and after four starts this time in, he should be at his peak today. Unbeaten at the track and distance and a true mudlark as well, he looks the goods in this contest.

The locally-trained ONE WAY STREET (best odds currently $11 with Palmerbet) looks well placed here and could give us a good value-for-money finish to the program today. Last start, the Super One gelding made it third time lucky when he broke through for his maiden win, here on a Heavy 10 over 1200m. He ran the trip out, almost half a length quicker than benchmark, setting a new personal best that day. Leading all the way, he clocked the 1200m in a slick 1:11 which isn’t too shabby in the conditions. Brenton Avdulla takes the reins today and from gate five, maps to settle just behind the early pace. Already a track and distance winner and a reveller in the wet, double-figure odds today look more than generous and an each-way ticket is strongly recommended here.
