Hong Kong Cup Tips – Japanese stayer can steal the cup

The Japanese runner Sungrazer looks set to enjoy a perfect run and take the cup back to the land of the rising sun.
Most of these runners can justify claims as to why they can take out this Group One event over the 2000 metre trip.
Looking at the line-up, it appears that the race could revolve around the local hope with Time Warp more than likely to lead and if left alone in front, he could very well prove hard to run down.
Brazilian born Joao Moreira will partner Sungrazer in the race and he tends to agree with that prognosis however he still believes his horse has what it takes to win the event.

The five-year-old son of Deep Impact has enjoyed an amazing career to date as a stayer.
He has won seven of his 16 race starts which includes a run of four-straight as a three-year-old.
More recently, he won a Group Two over 2000m fresh off an 11-week break then enjoyed a 10-week break before returning to the track and finishing second in Japan’s Group One Tenno Sho (2000m).
Sungrazer will line-up on Sunday six-weeks after his last run and with the form he is in, he will have both race fitness and fresh legs which will play a big role in the run home.
After drawing wide, the British runner Stormy Antarctic is expected to roll forward and may even challenge Time Warp for the front running, while local hopeful Glorious Forever could make it a three-way battle should he show his usual early dash, jumping from the inside gate.
It will no doubt be a race of tactics and will draw every ounce of patience from the jockeys on the front runners.
Should they decide to take on each other up front, horses like Sungrazer and the second Japanese entrant Deirdre will be sitting pretty at the back waiting for that long run home.
This is what I am banking on and can see Sungrazer finishing over the top of them.
