Blue Diamond Prelude Tips – best bets for the 2YO sprint races
- Why is McEvoy not riding Catch Me?
With the Blue Diamond Previews run and won, it’s time to step things up a notch and give most Blue Diamond Stakes contenders their final hit out.
The Blue Diamond Preludes for fillies and colts and geldings will take place at Caulfield on Saturday, and I think we can land the winner of both races.
Race 5 – 2:55PM Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (1100 METRES)Firstly, I find it odd that Kerrin McEvoy isn’t riding Catch Me or any other runner in the fillies Prelude. He’s been aboard Catch Me in both trials and both wins, and she was ultra-impressive winning the Preview last start. In fact, McEvoy said she is up there with the best two-year-olds he’s sat on this season. So, the only reason I can think of that he isn’t aboard, is that he and the stable think AUSSIE is their best chance in the Blue Diamond, and McEvoy will stick with Aussie and trainers Peter and Paul Snowden need a jockey to get familiar with Catch Me in the Prelude before she lines up in the main event also. Aussie may have finished 3.3 lengths from Dawn Passage over 1000m at Randwick on debut, but he still ran the same time as Catch Me did at the track and trip on debut. He’s surely got plenty of upside following that first-up 2nd placing, and he’s drawn ideally in barrier 5 on Saturday. This is an extremely open contest where exposed form will tell us little, so I’m taking the McEvoy theory as a lead.
