BLUE DIAMOND PREVIEW TIPS: 2YO racing action builds on Saturday with the Blue Diamond Previews for fillies and colt and geldings taking place at Caulfield.

With limited exposure, finding the winners of each event is a tricky task, but after assessing race form, trials and jump outs, we go in with some degree of confidence.

Here are our Blue Diamond Preview Tips:

Anthony Freedman’s stable is flying at the minute, and his Godolphin-bred Street Boss colt, HANSEATIC, rates highest here. He came from well off the pace on debut in the Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) to score by 2.5 lengths at Sandown. That performance rated 3.3 lengths better than standard BM and is the highest rating performance from any of these colts and geldings. Not only did his performance rate highly, but he defeated Away Game (4th) and that filly went on to win the Calway Gal Stakes (1110m) at her next start before a runaway victory in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m). That form simply can’t be ignored.

Hanseatic looked impressive in a Flemington jump out on January 17 where he sat off the speed and claimed the lead early in the straight before being eased up and going to the line under a good hold. The outside gate may not appear ideal, but I’d prefer this colt drawing wide as he’ll get back and won’t be getting stuck between runners. It’s only 1000m at Caulfield, and wide gates have the best record at this track and trip.

This looks more open than the boys event, and I’m finding it hard to split two of them. Again, Anthony Freedman comes to fore with two good chances, and I’m most keen on SUPREME IDEA of his pair. She showed great early speed to lead throughout on debut over 1112m at Geelong in what was the second quickest final 1000m of the day. She goes quick early and may prove hard to catch over 1000m.

However, I’m siding with another Godolphin horse, but this one is trained by James Cummings. GEIST finished two lengths from Hanseatic on debut and also comes out of the same jump out at Flemington. All of these fillies are going 44.2 seconds and above for their final 800m, and Geist is the only one to have gone well under that when going 43.72 on debut. It could be a big day for the Blue Army if these two get up.

Geist $9.50 Bet now!
