The Australian Oaks (2400m) is the first of the Group 1s, followed by Winx’s final racetrack appearance in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), and then Sydney Cup (3200m) and Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m).

The Championships Tips for Day 2:Race 1 – 11:25AM KINGS OF SYDNEY SPORT MILE (1600 METRES)Hugh Bowman and Tony McEvoy is not a combination we see too often, and while I couldn’t find any stats for them combining on a few stats sites, I did find that they combined with Manoeuvring at Warwick Farm in January 2015, and that resulted in a win. Bowman could have had multiple options here so I’m taking that as a lead that he and his manager think VINCO is the horse to beat. The I Am Invincible colt has worked through the grades and scored at Mornington last start over 1500m, and he’ll have confidence from that, as well as a fitness edge over most. AMERCEMENT has the runs on the board in quality races and he’s the obvious danger. First 4:1st – Vinco2nd – Amercement3rd – Significance4th – Power Scheme

Race 2 – 12:05PM THE AGENCY SOUTH PACIFIC CLASSIC (1400 METRES)KRONE got all the favours and had the drop on WILD PLANET and Classique Legend last start, but I’m expecting Wild Planet to improve the most. He won his maiden first-up last campaign and then beat Ranier second-up in the Poseidon Stakes (1400m). He did it three wide without cover on that occasion too, so I’d like to see Tommy Berry take cover – even if it’s wide – instead of pushing on from the wide gate. Krone is among the dangers, FASIKA has been ultra-impressive in two runs and deserved a crack at this level, and GEM SONG rates high but would need to improve from that effort behind Krone last start.First 4:1st – Wild Planet2nd – Krone3rd – Fasika4th – Gem Song

Race 3 – 12:40PM POLYTRACK PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FINAL (1400 METRES)ARCHEDEMUS beat Star Of The Seas who has since won two BM88 races at Rosehill, and it’s hard to go past him on that effort as well as his other two wins this preparation. Milseain was three lengths back in that race and has also franked the form winning her next two. That looks like the right form race so it’s hard to leave out OAKFIELD MISSILE and OAKFIELD TWILIGHT who filled the placings last time. TURNBERRY also comes out of that race and has won since, and he goes in for 4th. First 4:1st – Archedemus2nd – Oakfield Missile3rd – Oakfield Twilight4th – Turnberry

Race 4 – 1:15PM CAMERA HOUSE PERCY SYKES STAKES (1200 METRES)You’d love to know if Damian Lane was booted from KIAMICHI or has opted to ride CHEER LEADER. He did win the world’s richest two-year-old race on Kiamichi and just ran out of gas last start, and Lane rode her perfectly on both occasions. She looks suited dropping back in trip but has to give weight away, while she’s also at risk of being over the top here. I had mail for Mayan who the McEvoy stable were targeting at the Sires’ Produce, but Cheer Leader belted him and the rest and won by six lengths after being eased down with 100m to go. Cheer Leader is very exciting, and I want to be with him on Saturday as he tries to defeat the Blue Army.First 4:1st – Cheer Leader2nd – Kiamichi3rd – Flit 4th – Pin Sec

Race 5 – 1:50PM ARROWFIELD 3YO SPRINT (1200 METRES)I’m a big fan of the progressive CLASSIQUE LEGEND but can’t have him on top because AVANTAGE lines up in opposition. Avantage is the winner of seven of eight starts and suffered her only defeat when runner-up in the Group 1 Sistema Stakes (1200m) where she got back to last and finished strongly along the inside. She brought that New Zealand form to Australia and kicked off with a gusty win over Resin who took the lead half-way down the straight until Avantage fought back and put a length on Resin. She always improves second-up, and with less weight from a good gate, she should prove hard to beat.First 4:1st – Avantage2nd – Classique Legend3rd – Lean Mean Machine4th – Zousain

Race 10 – 5:10PM TAB SAPPHIRE STAKES (1200 METRES)The word is WINTER BRIDE has come on from her impressive first-up win over SPRIGHT who then finished runner-up behind Sunlight in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m). That pair can fight it out again. INVINCIBELLA maps well as she’s likely to land behind Winter Bride and get carted into the race at the right time. She’s won three times first-up and looms as the danger to that pair. RESIN just ran out of puff late behind Avantage who I have on top earlier in the day, so she must go in here third-up and ready to fire.First 4:1st – Winter Bride2nd – Spright3rd – Invincibella4th – Resin
