Golden Sixty - shooting for the HK triple crown

A class field will line up in the Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m), headed by pin-up four-year-old Golden Sixty who is in line to take out the triple crown.

The Classic Cup is the second leg of the triple crown (for four-year-olds) with Golden Sixty already successful in the first leg of the series, the Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m).

His win in the Classic Mile was nothing short of sensational, coming from well back and exploding to the lead at the 150m mark with a superb turn of foot and hitting the line with more than a length to spare.

Trainer, Francis Lui has the son of Medaglia D’Oro in peak condition, winning his past five starts.

Francis Lui has two in the Hong Kong Classic Cup

Runner-up in the Classic Mile was stablemate to Golden Sixty, More Than This who’s performance that day was just as impressive.

He came from last on the turn to finish second, chasing Golden Sixty to the line.

The John Size-trained Champion’s Way did it tough in the Classic Mile, travelling wide without cover most of the way. His effort in finishing third didn’t go unnoticed.

Also from the John Size stable is Beauty Legacy who put in a fine performance in finishing fourth in the Classic Mile.

He travelled ungenerously in the early stages and pulled badly for Joao Moreira, but did finish off well, coming from well back to complete the top four (copping interference at a crucial stage in the run home).

The full line up is:

BEAUTY LEGACY – John Size 100

CHAMPION’S WAY – John Size 107

ENJOYING – John Moore 86

GOLDEN SIXTY – Francis Lui 112

MORE THAN THIS – Francis Lui 107

PLAYA DEL PUENTE – Danny Shum 90

The HK Classic Cup will be run on Sunday, February 23 at Sha Tin.

The third leg of the triple crown is the BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) which will be run on Sunday, March 22.
