Harness racing in New South Wales and Victoria cancelled
Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) has temporarily suspended all harness racing meetings in the state after an industry participant had been in contact with a person that has tested positive to COVID-19.
The issue arose at the Penrith harness racing meeting on Thursday, March 19.
Anyone that has been in direct contact with the participant has been notified and advised to closely monitor their health and seek medical attention should they develop flu like symptoms.
“We are taking every precaution and following all NSW health advice at the moment,” HRNSW chief executive John Dumesny told Nine Entertainment Co.
“We are waiting for the primary test to come back and we have also sent one of our stewards who was in close contact with the person to be tested for COVID-19.
“Until test results are known, we will be monitoring the welfare of everyone in the industry.”
Harness racing was scheduled to be run at Menangle today before the announcement saw the meeting abandoned.
Harness Racing Victoria has advised that Bendigo’s Tuesday night race meeting has been cancelled and that more news is to come.
