Sha Tin Tips – April 1
Race 7 – HAP MUN BAY HANDICAP (CLASS 3) 1800M
With four top-three finishes from his past five starts, RED ELYSEES is way overdue for a change of luck and it could come here. Three starts back, he finished third in a Class 3 here over 2000m then followed that up by finishing second behind Righteous Doctrine over the shorter 1800m trip. His last effort saw him break the run of minor placings when he finished fifth (still beaten less than two lengths) behind the handy Raging Blitzkrieg over 1650m here two weeks ago. He heads back to the 1800m journey here which should suit him better and confidence climbs here with Zac Purton remaining aboard despite his unplaced run last start. All three career wins have come at Sha Tin and with a touch of luck here, he could be celebrating his first win this time in.
Race 8 – CHEUNG SHA HANDICAP (CLASS 2) 1650M
The John Moore-trained BUDDIES has proven to be a real consistent competitor since hitting the Hong Kong tracks. The four-year-old’s first run in Class 2 company came four starts back where the So You Think gelding finished second behind Elusive State over 1650m. He followed that up next start by finishing third behind Glorious Artist and Elusive State in similar conditions. Last start, he was impressive when fighting out the finish with race favourite Seattle Choice where he came back to the 1400m trip. Back to the 1650m journey here, he has a clean record at the track and trip. Six starts have resulted in three wins and three minor placings which is a big tick in this company. Joao Moreira climbs aboard for the first time and from an ideal draw in gate three, should enjoy the run of the race and prove hard to hold out.
