The Championships prizemoney

Racing NSW have announced prizemoney in the 2020 The Star Championships will be cut by as much as 50 percent due to the challenges arising from COVID-19.

The Championships which are set to be run on April 4 and 11 include eight Group 1 races which have all had prizemoney reduced by half.

The Country Championships Final (April 4) and Provincial Championship (April 11) have been reduced by $100,000 while the Group 2 and 3 events remain unchanged.

These unprecedented cuts to prizemoney are a result of the current lockouts of pubs, clubs and TAB retail outlets which are racing’s main source of funding for prizemoney.

Current restrictions on race attendances have also impacted funding, as have sponsorships deals.
