TopBetta Review

TopBetta is a unique bookmaker offering traditional betting markets with the option to compete in tipping tournaments.

About TopBetta

TopBetta is an Australian betting company offering a unique mix of traditional betting along with the opportunity to compete against fellow punters in daily tipping tournaments.

Founded in 2009, TopBetta were officially launched in 2010 and have continued to grow from strength to strength in recent years.

They differ from most rival bookmakers by offering tournament betting in which customers pay an entry fee in the hope of scooping the jackpot prizes up $250,000 by making the biggest profit using fantasy money known as Betta Bucks.

TopBetta have, however, moved into more mainstream avenues more recent with traditional fixed odds and tote betting offered across horse racing and major sports as well as multibets, a new addition to the TopBetta armoury.

TopBetta Website

There is nothing flashy or groundbreaking about the TopBetta website but it does everything required of it – including making taking part in the tournaments a simply and easy thing.

Using the orange and black colours of the brand, the TopBetta website is broken down into three clear sections – Tournaments, Racing and Sports – and you will be able to navigate quickly to the destination you want to be with the minimum of fuss. In addition to the three tabs, another accompanies them with access to the Blog where you will find all the latest news and previews.

Within the Tournament tab, you will find the latest list of tipping competitions you can take part in. Racing and Sports, meanwhile, will take you to the betting odds markets for the latest events. Within each of these sections, the options are neatly displayed in a left-hand menu for sports and via a left-hand menu or scrolling bar across the top of the page for racing.

Bet placement is quick and easy via a pop up window in which pre-selected amounts are displayed as boxes along with win, each-way or place to help save time while getting your wager on. Alternatively, you can type in your bet amount into the box provided.

TopBetta App and Mobile Site

TopBetta has developed a Mobile App which allows access to both tournaments and racing and sports betting. It is a relatively simple and easy to use app, and features up-to-the-minute betting odds. It is available to download from the App Store for iPhones and iPads and compliments what is available via the website.

Alternatively, the TopBetta website can be loaded on mobile or tablet, although it does not automatically display to the right size unlike other bookmakers.

TopBetta Tournaments

One the biggest attractions of being a TopBetta member is the opportunity to take part in the tournaments. Some are available with free entry to play for fun – or get the hang of how they actually work – while others have buy-in prices of up to $110 (there is also entry of $2,200 for serious players).

Available across racing on a daily basis and now across most major sports including AFL, NRL, Premier League soccer, NBA basketball and NFL, there is an excellent variety of tournaments available to suit everyone’s taste.

All tournaments, with the exception of some of the free entry versions, have prize pools which range from free entry into another tournament to a share of the $250,000 jackpot available in the biggest racing.

The idea (see below for a detailed explanation on how the tournaments work) is simple: making the biggest profit by placing bets on racing or sports matches and fixtures – depending on what you are entering – to be in with a shout of winning a share of the prize.

During tournaments, the key decision that has to be made is when to reinvest your Betta Bucks and when to sit tight. The current leaderboards are displayed within each tournament to help you make your decision on whether to be conservative or gamble a little more.

Most tournaments of re-buys associated with them allowing you to re-enter the tournament up to five times if you find yourself without any remaining Betta Bucks. Most tournaments carry up to five re-buys although check the terms of each one as there is usually a cut-off point.

How TopBetta Tournaments Work

TopBetta Tournaments give you the chance to go head-to-head with friends or fellow tipsters. But before starting, it is a good idea to understand how they work and how you can join in the fun.

For starters, they are very easier to join in. You just need to be a TopBetta member and away you go.

1. Select the tournament you want to take part in.

Once you are on the TopBetta website, just click on the Tournaments tab and you’ll be greeted with the full list of options to take part in. Some will have free entry, others will have an entry fee displayed alongside it. You might be taking part in a single day tournament on racing, an AFL tournament across a weekend or a jackpot tournament covering an entire month of racing or sporting action. The terms of conditions, prize pool details and leaderboard will all be displayed within the tournament page.

2. Place Your Bets

Once you have decided which tournament you want to enter, it is time to turn your Betta Bucks into profit. You are betting on actual markets and odds, but just with fantasy money. So you can take a little more risk than you perhaps would with your own hard-earned. One requirement is that you must turn over all of your Betta Bucks (i.e. bet at least that amount, regardless of whether you have won with your first wager), but you can place as little or as many bets as you choose during the length of the tournament. Your current balance will always be displayed on the leaderboard, but you must choose whether to keep reinvesting your money to increase your profit or sit tight in the hope what you have done already will be another to win or secure a share of the prize pool.

Some tournaments will be a Winner Takes All, while others will pay out for the Top 3 finishers. So think wisely before placing that one last bet. Do you need to make more profit? Or could losing another $500 push you out of the prizes?

Odds and Markets

TopBetta aren’t in the same league as many bigger rivals when it comes to betting markets, but there has been a significant increase on what is available. You will now find fixed odds and tote odds on offer for a wide array of markets than ever before.

Racing fans can take a price about many more races as TopBetta moved towards satisfying the needs and requirements of their customer base. If tote betting is your preference, they offer BO4, which stands for the best of the three Tote dividends declared or the Starting Price (SP) – so will get value for your money.

Sports bettors don’t have the biggest selection of markets to choose from. But the main sports are covered with AFL, NRL, soccer, rugby union, cricket, tennis, golf, NBA, NFL, MLB, boxing and golf all available. If it is something more obscure you like a punt on, you’re unlikely to find it at TopBetta.

Equally, the depth to the markets are not in the same league as other bookmakers. But if you like a wager on the head-to-head, match winner, tournament winner, handicap betting or various other standard betting options, you will be catered for.
