Alice Springs Tips – December 19
Race 1 - 2:00PM Red Centre Technology Partners Handicap (1200 METRES)
The form horse of the opener would appear to be MILES PROWER (Best Odds Currently $3.30 with TAB). Won his first two back this prep beating Maudy both times. He found plenty late in both after finding the better run in transit under Jessie Philpot. Could make the case for last start winner Maudy to turn the tables while drawn inside him this time. Not inclined to do so when Miles Prower has claimed the older gelding’s number twice in two runs now. Greg Connor stepped him out to 1400 meters when third-up last time, and we love them coming back to trip at their fourth or fifth run back. This is harder from the top as opposed to what Miles Prower has met recently, comes up against these at a good time though.
Race 3 - 3:12PM Mad Harrys Handicap (1100 METRES)
We were following LIKE A HEARTBEAT (Best Odds Currently $3.40 with Bet365) as he showed signs of improvement. Didn’t eventuate for us before he snuck under our guard putting three wins together from four starts. Carried weight to cruise away from a small yet handy Benchmark 54 field on the back-up over 1200 meters. Since found a similar Restricted 70 grade race over this trip, cruising past the leaders on turning. Opened up with a big win and the punters followed in, only to be burnt at his next start. Still didn’t race poorly and is worth another go as he finds a good race shape. We can expect Pandiea to be further improved, though may need another and Bar Gem will be at his heels at some stage.
Race 4 - 3:47PM Centreline Saddlery Handicap (1100 METRES)
Strong mare CELINE (Best Odds Currently $14 with TAB) may give them something to think about first-up. Yet to race here in The Red Centre, she’s shown glimpses of ability during her time in South Australia. While being a stronger type, she may well need the run. Her first-up form is probably better than it reads though as she’s come out of some unsuitable fast-run races. Comfortable winner for us, taking out her maiden over 1200 meters at Balaklava against a field inferior to these. Lisa will go quick, not sure the others match the early speed of some of the opposition that Celine has faced. Should hopefully find herself in the first few provided she handles the transition to sand track racing, and can out-muscle them to the line.
