Here are our Armidale race tips:

Tamworth galloper JOUSTING (best odds $2.90 with BlueBet) is in outstanding form since changing stables and after five starts for current trainer Jacob Perrett, looks the testing material again today. Last start, the Helmet gelding lined-up here in a Class 1/Maiden Plate over 1900m and led them a merry dance. From barrier to box, the six-year-old gave them a galloping lesson, putting almost five lengths on the field as he crossed the line. He recorded the fastest final 400m and 200m sectionals for the event that day. He steps up in grade today but drops 2.5kgs for the 1900m trip. Ben Looker steered him to that big win last start and remains with him here. He should have no trouble finding the front from gate three and with four-straight podium finishes behind him this preparation, he looks well placed to keep that trend going today.

Coffs Harbour visitor BEAT THAT (best odds $4.40 with Palmerbet) has found his best form lately and looks a real threat here. Last start, the Drumbeats gelding lined-up in a BM66 over 1400m on his home track and looked all-over a winner but ended up with company right on the line, having to share the honours with outsider Rendelsham ($26), dead-heating for the top prize that day. He ran that trip, 4.8 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Ideally drawn in gate three today, he maps to get the gun-run here and settle just behind the early pace. Ray Spokes has partnered the six-year-old in 23 of his 30 starts, victorious in four of his five career victories, so its fair to say he has some experience with the galloper. Back to his best now, he will prove hard to hold out again.

In an open affair here, topweight CHESTNUT SCAFFA (best odds $4.60 with Sportsbet) makes his track debut today and his current form warrants plenty of respect. Last start, the All Too Hard gelding tried to lead all the way in a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m at Narromine but was grabbed by a couple of swoopers just short of the line, leaving him to take home third prize that day. He draws the fence today, but with plenty of early speed drawn wide here, the tactics may be to take a sit behind the rush from out wide to lead. Billy Cray has been aboard for the five-year-old’s last three starts with the stats sheet reading two wins and a minor placing coming from those three runs and remains in the saddle today. The galloper boasts a personal best of running 3.5 lengths quicker than benchmark for the 1400m journey, the best in this line-up. With a trouble-free run here, he looks a genuine winning chance in this field.
