Race 4 - 2:25PM Ingenia Lifestyle Parkside Lucas 3YO BM64 Handicap (1400 METRES)
TRAMONTANA ($2.70 with bet365) should be hard to beat in Race 4 of the afternoon at Ballarat. The Ben & JD Hayes-trained galloper was an easy winner two starts ago on the Synthetic over the 1200m here before heading to Flemington on September 22 and just missing out in a blanket finish behind Cuban Link, running 3rd to that galloper. He led that day before just going down. He went 0.7 lengths slower than standard benchmark in that race, which are the best last start figures of any runner and will sit on what looks to be a moderate speed from barrier 2.
Race 5 - 3:00PM Sportsbet - Take a Sec Before You Bet BM64 Handicap (2000 METRES)
ANGELIC SCENT ($3.20with Sportsbet) shapes as a major player in Race 5. The Matt Laurie-trained galloper shows a stack of promise and was a five length winner in Maiden grade over the 1500m here back in February before placing 3rd in the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) over in Adelaide. She comes into this with two runs under her belt this time in and stepped up from the 1500m to place 3rd over the 2000m behind Hemran Hasse at Mornington on September 26. The daughter of Teofilo should be cherry ripe at her third run in and was a big improver on figures at this stage last time. A firmer in the betting, she won’t be far away in the run and should be hard to hold out at the business end.
Race 8 - 4:50PM Bet With Mates Cup (1600 METRES)
The feature is the $200,000 Bet With Mates Cup and SKYMAN ($6 with Sportsbet) can chalk up a win. The Chris Waller-trained galloper has had three starts this time in and has bumped into Floating Artist at his past couple. He was no match for that horse over the 1800m at Sandown on September 25, but filled the exacta. I like the drop down to the 1600m and that blueprint worked well in the autumn. He improved markedly on benchmark figures at this stage when going from a runner-up in the Yarra Valley Cup (1950m) to a win over the 1600m at Caulfield. The son of Mukhadram went more than 12 lengths faster than standard that day and gets in well at the weights, while he has drawn perfectly in barrier 3.
