Ballina Tips – July 14
RACE PREVIEWS 🧐
Race 1 – 12:50PM SLIPWAY HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Just four career starts to date for Matt Dunn’s three-year-old HOLLYWOOD DREAMING (No.2) but she improved with each run and comes into this a last start winner. After finishing second in her maiden races at Ballina and Casino, the Hampton Court filly then returned to her home track at Murwillumbah where she went one better. Despite a small field, she was still carted wide on the turn, but it mattered not as she finished best to take out the 1010m event. Belinda Hodder has partnered her at her past three runs and remains aboard again. Drawn the fence today, she should settle just behind the pace set by the early speedsters drawn outside her here. Four starts behind her now, her fitness should be at its peak here and she looks the one to beat.
Race 7 – 4:35PM THE MISSION @ AQUIS FARM BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Lismore visitor, AMIRYKAL (No.3) has impressed at two starts off a 10-week break and looks well-placed here to go on with it. Fresh off that break, the three-year-old was dealt a heavy track at Grafton and stepping up to Class 2 company for the first time she really flew the flag for the Daniel Bowen stable. Settling last, she finished too strongly for the others and took out the 1225m event. Then last start, she appeared to suffer from ‘second-up syndrome’. She came across heels in the run home but couldn’t reel in the leaders, finishing third in the Rosehill Class 2 contest over 1400m. Both career wins have come on heavy tracks so she will be right at home here today. Sired by Akeed Mofeed, who was a dual Group One winner, taking out the 2013 Hong Kong Derby (2000m) and Longines Hong Kong Cup (2000m), this filly should handle another 1400m contest comfortably at this stage. She maps ideally in gate two and will hard to hold out here.
