This looks to be a suitable assignment for LORD WONDER (Best odds $1.90 with Sportsbet). The four-year-old has had four starts for three placings and resumed at Pakenham on April 22, finishing a narrow runner-up behind Hengroen. In that race, they absolutely crawled early on and he settled back in the field of nine without cover in the three wide position The race developed into a sit sprint and he made up plenty of ground late in the piece to just miss out behind the winner. The son of Shocking produced the fastest last 200m and should be able to improve at his second run back and out to the 1600m. The likelihood of a Soft track should also suit.

IRISH BUTTERFLY (Best odds $6 with Palmerbet) is another that can improve second up at Bendigo. The lightly raced five-year-old had a three start campaign over summer and placed in his first two runs over shorter trips before breaking through at BenchMark 64 level at Sandown in February over the 1500m. The Henry Dwyer-trained galloper resumed at Bendigo over the 1400m on May 2 and settled back in the field before closing off nicely behind Wave Reviews. He needs to make up ground on that horse and the 3rd placegetter, Excelleration, but will strip fitter and should be suited by the step out to the 1600m.

The promising SUGARTOWN (Best odds $5 with bet365) can go on with the job after taking out her Maiden at Bendigo on May 2. In that race, the Danny O’Brien filly was resuming off a two start campaign that saw her finish runner-up at both Kyenton and Pakenham last spring and she was sent out an even money favourite before justifying the quote, sitting on speed to defeat Flying Finch by more than a length, while there was a big gap back to 3rd. The daughter of Shamus Award went 2.3 lengths slower than standard benchmark that day, which are the second best last start figures of any runner. At her second run last time in she improved a few lengths on figures, while she has been solid in the early betting. From barrier 2, she is right in this.
