RACE 1 - 1:30PM TAC MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)
Next Best 🥈No. 4 MARCO SPADA $3.80 Bet Now!
The opener on Colac Cup day is a Maiden over the 1600m and MARCO SPADA can go close. The three-year-old was no match for them in town on January 20 when 7th at Sandown but didn’t really enjoy the favours in that race as he settled back in a slowly run race. The Shea Eden-trained galloper was luckless at Mornington prior to that when runner-up to Ceejay over the 1200m on January 10, while three starts ago he wasn’t far away in a very solid form race behind Rising Sphere at Sandown. He went a length faster than standard benchmark that day, which is nearly five lengths faster than what any other runner int his race has ever produced, while his last start figures are inferior to just one other runner. The son of Street Boss gets out to the 1600m for the first time and has produced the fastest last 200m in two of his past four. With luck in running from the tricky gate he can get the job done.
RACE 6 - 4:20PM AKD SOFTWOODS BM64 HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Best Value💰No. 7 ALLANO $6 Bet Now!
We stretch out over the 2000m in Race 6 of the day and ALLANO is not without a chance at the each-way odds. The veteran galloper has had three runs this time in and battled after a tough run at Flemington two starts ago before heading to Geelong and running 6th behind Irish Delight over the 1710m. In that race, he was slowly out and settled midifle before sticking on well. He went five lengths slower than standard benchmark, which are the best last start figures of any runner and it is interesting to note that the runner-up out of that race, The Regiment, has since come out and won well at Moonee Valley on Friday. The son of Lando has won two of three over the 2000m and at his fourth run at his last campaign he improved 8.4 lengths on benchmark figures to go 2.5 lengths faster than standard when 7th at Ballarat. No horse in this race has produced better figures in the last two years. He has drawn well in barrier 5 and with an even tempo or better he can fight out the finish.
RACE 7 - 4:50PM AUSTRALIAN LAMB COMPANY COLAC GOLD CUP (2000 METRES)
Best Bet 🏆Bet Now!
The highlight of the day is the Colac Gold Cup and BLACK SAIL should be hard to beat. The Maher/Eustace galloper has been solid in the provincial features and has placed in both the Kimore Cup (1600m) and the Woodford Cup (1700m) this prep. He was caught wide when 4th I the Camperdown Cup (1600m) on January 16 before heading to Morphettville on January 30 and winning by nearly three lengths after dictating early on. He went 7.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark in that race and it will be interesting to see if Harry Coffey employs similar tactics as a number of the key rivals in this race tend to settle a little further back. He gets out to the 2000m for the first time but is bred to run the trip and from barrier 5 he shouldn’t have too many issues in transit.
