Currently in a purple patch of form, Dubbo galloper CAREERING AWAY could very well live up to his name here and take this out. Last start, the Hard Spun gelding was coming off a win in a BM58 at Scone when he lined up in similar company at Bathurst. That day, dropped back in distance and carrying more weight, still ran a solid race to finish second, beaten a neck on the line in the 12-strong field. He ran out the 2008m, 1.7 lengths slower than benchmark but that is still the best last-start result in this field. The six-year-old maps to get the gun-run from gate four and Billy Cray sticks with him after the last three successful rides. He lines up here a genuine winning chance.
The Randwick training partnership of Jim and Greg Lee saddle-up REBUKES here who has done enough this time in to play a role in this contest today. Last start, the Sepoy mare stuck to the fence, box-seating most of the way, and as they quickened, couldn’t quite match it with the pair in front of her, finishing third in the 1100m event. She still managed to run her last 600m, 6.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line up. She was a winner in Class 3 company at Queanbeyan three starts back where she ran an impressive 1:08.8 for the 1200m that day. Pietro Romeo sticks with her here for his fourth-straight ride and from gate six, maps to settle better than mid-field and should have the last shot at them in the run home. Returning to country class racing and already a winner over the 1350m trip, the mare looks a serious threat to these today.
