Here are today’s Darwin Tips:

Punters sent ARADHANA (Best Odds Currently $3.60 with Neds) around at big odds both starts since resuming. We’re all far more wary here, and for good reason. She pinged the gates for Jason Lyon on Palmerston Sprint Day, leading all the way to score in a restricted 62 race. Not a bad way for a horse to break their maiden status. Since followed with a gutsy effort in trying again to go all the way, this time in front of the speedy Little Town Blues. Thought she stuck on okay once headed by the first two home, and a repeat sees Aradhana in the finish again.

The main feature of the day sees VUNIVALU (Best Odds Currently $4.40 with Sportsbet) stepping up in Benchmark grade. While he’s technically the horse coming through to another class level, his recent race times indicate otherwise. His latest two efforts have both been in races which have rated the highest of the day; including early race times Vs late race splits. He sat on a fast speed which was set by Masterati two starts back. Vunivalu appeared to wilt under pressure as the leader kicked, and Carlingford loomed large. As those two horses peaked on their runs late, Vunivalu did continue on strongly through the line. Since followed up with a scintillating win this track and distance seven days ago. Should he be able to back-up again, then Vunivalu will give them plenty to think about.

We finish the day with a CL2 that rates as a BM59 from the top. Getting in well at half a kilo over top weight under class conditions is SIAKAM (Best Odds Currently $3.40 with Palmerbet). He’s come through all the good 3yo races over the carnival here, just not seeing out the trip in the Derby. We love seeing them come back in distance, which he did last start to lead all the way over 1600m. Back even further now to 1200m, in a race where we don’t believe he has to lead to win. Should still be able to race handy without being pushed out of rhythm to hold a spot.
