This looks to be a suitable race for VITRUVIUS ($4 with Sportsbet) . The Paul Preusker-trained galloper has had just the four starts with two of those coming this prep. He has worked home well in both of those, placing 3rd. Last time out, the four-year-old closed off well behind the likes of Hickok and Flying Mascot, going 3.3 lengths faster than standard, which is a personal best. Suspect there is more to come from this son of Star Witness as he steps up in trip and with the Caulfield Cup winning jockey, Brett Prebble, on board, he should be strong late in the piece.

Pretty keen on UNANIMOUS ($9.50 with Sportsbet) in Race 4 of the day. The Maher/Eustace galloper was luckless when resuming off a long break at Wangaratta with a 3rd behind Shilo Lass in what has turned out to be a solid form race. Last time out he struck a Heavy track at Bendigo and settled back before running on for 4th. At his only other career third up run he was a sharp improver on figures, while he has drawn perfectly in barrier 4 with John Allen to ride.

I’m a big fan of Tralee Rose in the Cup but it is HASTA LA WAR ($7 with bet365) that might be worth a play at the $7.50. The South Australian galloper has been a big improver as he has stepped up in trip this time around and romped to a three-length win at Morphettville on September 25 before measuring up to the big guns, placing 3rd behind Delphi and The Chosen One in the Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield on October 9. The Sue Murphy-trained galloper was posted three deep in that race but kept coming to finish ahead of the likes of Defibrillate and Mirage Dancer. He won’t be far away from the barrier with Linda Meech on board and can go very close.

HOW WOMANTIC ($3 with Sportsbet)is a serious player in the Black Pearl Stakes for the fillies and mares. Really liked the first up performance of this mare, who produced the fastest late splits when 3rd behind Esta La Roca and Bless Her at Sandown on September 25 over the 1000m. That form has stood up with Bless Her running well at Caulfield last weekend. Second up in the autumn she was three lengths off them in an Oakleigh Plate, while she looks like she wants the 1200m and is three from five at that distance.
