Race 1 - 1:18PM #THISISACONVERSATION RACEDAY 27 OCTOBER QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1350 METRES)
Eagle Farm galloper THATFEELSBETTER (best odds $1.95 with bet365) is back today looking for another win at the Ipswich track. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding was fresh off a lengthy 20-week spell when he proved too good for them in a 1200m Maiden on this track. He ran the trip, 4.3 lengths slower than benchmark which rates second-best in this field. Baylee Nothdurft has been in charge for the three-year-old’s only two career starts and remains in the saddle today. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to box-seat behind the early pace here and fitter for that first-up win, he will take beating today.
Race 3 - 2:30PM FERTPRO Class 2 Handicap (800 METRES)
Topweight, DARE TO SHARE (best odds $1.90 with Sportsbet) has a glowing track record here and looks well placed to keep that intact today. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding came off an impressive win in Class 1 company on this track when he stepped up to a Class 2 challenge at the Sunshine Coast. The rise in trip (to 1000m) seemed to take its toll that day, as he weakened in the final stages to finish just behind the placegetters. He ran the trip, 2.8 lengths slower than benchmark, setting a new personal best and that rates the best in this field. Returning to country racing today, Adin Thompson sticks with him and after the claim, the galloper carries just 56kgs here. From gate three, he maps to settle in the first four and already two from three at the track, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 4 - 3:10PM SURREAL SIGNS Fillies and Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 Handicap (1350 METRES)
The Chris Munce-trained VITAL SOURCE (best odds $3.60 with bet365) has done nothing but improve this time in and looks well placed here to go back-to-back today. Last start, the Headwater mare was third-up at the Sunshine Coast where she finally broke through for her maiden win over 1200m. Missing the start, she settled back with the tail-enders and turned for home, still seven lengths off the speed. The experienced Larry Cassidy shook her up and after weaving through traffic, found clean air where the mare showed an amazing turn-of-foot to reel them in and run away with it, putting three lengths on them over the line. This looks no harder as she steps up a little in distance which looks ideal at this stage. She draws wide here but is expected to get back anyway, and with three starts under her belt now, she looks the one they have to beat today.
