Leeton Tips – May 7
Race 3 – 1:22PM MILBRAE BUSINESS GROUP CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1050 METRES)
The Heywood connection stands out here with Chris Heywood saddling up CORAZON DE ORO while legging aboard son Nick (Heywood) to take the reins for the fourth time on the mare. The Al Maher mare resumed from a lengthy 10-month break in good style, finishing second in a Class 2 over 1000m at Albury, before repeating that effort at Wagga in a harder Class 3 event. She then enjoyed a four-week let-up before returning to the Wagga track and dropping back to Class 2 company, she destroyed her opposition that day, putting 6.5 lengths on them over the longer 1200m trip, despite carrying the grandstand that day with 66.5kgs on her back. Last start, things didn’t turn out so good. She drew wide (gate 10 of 16) and with 60kgs, found the 1300m a bit too big of a mountain to climb at Wagga that day. She returns to Class 2 company here and will appreciate the drop back to 57kgs as well. Drawn nicely in gate six, she also drops back to the 1050m and looks a real threat in this company.
Race 6 – 3:12PM YENDA PRODUCERS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1150 METRES)
A two-time winner third-up, ORIGINAL PRANKSTER looks well placed here and with the 4kg claim for Danielle Scott, comes in well at the weights. Resuming from a 15-week spell, the six-year-old wasn’t disgraced when beaten just 1.5 lengths in a BM58 at Queanbeyan where he felt the pinch inside the final 150 metres. Then last start, he lined up at Forbes and second-up, found the 63.5kgs a bit much to carry over the 1100m trip, finishing fourth, beaten four lengths that day. This is easier than his Queanbeyan hit-out and after the claim, he carries just 57.5kgs here and could surprise at good odds.
