Race 3 - 3:10PM THINKWATER LEETON CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1150 METRES)
Best Bet ?No. 4 ATTUNED $6.00 Bet Now!
Canberra visitor, ATTUNED returns to Leeton, winning his only previous start at the track and looks well placed to keep that record intact today. The lightly-raced Your Song gelding came off a 13-week break to win here four starts back. Then after an unplaced run on a Heavy 8 at Dubbo, he lined up in a Class 2 at Queanbeyan over 1200m and lead all the way until the post where he was grabbed by No What To Keep, nosing him out of victory. Then last start, it was a similar scenario where he led on settling, only to be found out over the final 100 metres, finishing fourth in a Class 1 over 1280m at Orange. Today, the six-year-old lines up for start number 14 and has plenty of boxes ticked here. He drops back in distance, is a track and trip winner and has Simon Miller remaining in the saddle after riding him at his past two starts. Drawn a treat in gate two, he should without too much trouble and over the shorter trip today, should prove hard to run down.
Race 5 - 4:25PM LEETON SOLDIERS CLUB STAN AXTILL MEMORIAL (1150 METRES)
Best Value ?No. 8 DERBY STAR $7.00 Bet Now!
Down in the weights today, DERBY STAR looks ideally placed to give this a real shake. Last preparation was short and sweet where the Starcraft gelding came off a six-month spell, only to race three times (all unplaced) before being sent back to the paddock for another 10 weeks. He then returned to trackwork where he finished second (of 10) in a Wagga trial on a heavy track. Then, he returned to racing by lining up in the Griffith Cup and on fresh legs, he did well to run fourth in a blanket finish, beaten a neck on the line. He raced a little greenly in the run home and had he stayed focused, could possibly have won the Cup. Second-up today, he has his first look at the Leeton track and has Griffith Cup rider, Josh Richards remaining aboard. He drops 4kgs from that last run and is already a second-up winner. There’s plenty to like about him here and he looks a solid each-way chance today.
