MORNINGTON TIPS – June 8
Race 5 – 2:45PM NEDS PRICE BOOST MULTI HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
After a series of close up performances in recent times, ZAIDIN gets his chance to break through when he lines up in Race 5 of the day at Mornington. The David Brideoake-trained galloper has had five runs this time in and loomed as the winner at Sandown last time but just went down in the dying stages behind Yeldarb. Prior to that, he narrowly missed out on Soft tracks at both Terang and Sandown. He drops in grade off those recent runs and lines up at his home track for the first time in his career. The son of Lonhro generally holds his form as he gets deep into his campaigns and with luck from the wide gate he can go close here.
Race 7 – 3:55PM NEDS PRICE BOOST MULTI HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
The fillies and mares square off in Race 7 of the day over the 2000m distance and ARCTIC SHOCK can bounce back after battling into 11th place at Flemington on May 23. In that race, the four-year-old was posted out very deep in the early stages before finishing five lengths behind Savaheat. Prior to that, she kicked off her campaign with three successive placings, including one behind Jumbo Ozaki and Sikorsky in a solid form race at Caulfield. It is interesting to note that at her last campaign she produced a bit of a flat run at a similar stage at Flemington before bouncing back to win at Moonee Valley. The daughter of Shocking will find it easier than recent runs and the 2kg claim for Jessica Eaton is another boost to her chances.
Race 8 – 4:30PM TAKE IT TO THE NEDS LEVEL HCP (1000 METRES)
We close off with the sprinters in action over the 1000m and NOT ENOUGH EFFORT should be hard to beat. The four-year-old has had eight weeks in between runs but was solid in higher grade at Caulfield on April 11, finishing a two-length 6th behind Too Good Too Hard. He ran more than 12 lengths quicker than benchmark in that race and stuck on well after being posted out wide in the early stages. He has produced good figures throughout his career and has the speed to overcome the wide gate, while he has performed well when on the fresh side in the past. A firmer in early betting, he carries 61.5kg after the claim for Thomas Stockdale and can close the day out as a winner.
