GULF OF SUEZ impressed us enough on debut to commit his name to the Blackbook following the Saturday Review. Dual engaged, he’s already scratched from Moonee Valley Saturday so it’s nice to have the certainty of the stable preferring to run him here. Led and kicked off a good tempo to score in fast time on the Inner Parks Track, we felt he’d be better suited on the big outer track that be gets on Saturday. Plenty of quality about Gulf Of Suez and they’ll have to be good to beat him.

WYLIE OL’ COYOTE gets to the mile fourth up in top form given his past two over the 1400m. Both were on the Parks Track in some fast run races. Got back early as the leader You Hadme At Hello kicked and ran them ragged. Wylie Ol’ Coyote commenced his run early to be the only realistic chance of running the leader down. Nice effort into second place. Came to the series final to probably find a spot closer than we’d expect he could given the speed. Worked his way between horse to finish strongly beaten half a length to Magnetic Edge in a good race. Market has this event wide open, I’m happy to play. Wylie Ol’ Coyote seems to be looking for the 1600m now and Sophie Logan will be able to take her time in rolling forward to find a handy spot before turning.

ATEN from the McEvoy yard appears well in here to get punters out in the last. Trial at Murray Bridge was okay, no flashing lights or anything. Sat handy enough before coming on early to work a little through the line behind Big Effort and Zoulah, that trial itself will hold up. Consistently runs good figures while building through her grades. Aten had a short prep last time in, winning comfortably over speedster Antrim’s Secret on resumption. A little stiff at her next start when claimed late by Fortune Follows who ran a peak rating to tip Aten out on the line, leaving a gap back to the rest. This track will continue to firm in the hot weather, paying to be on horses such as Aten who can posi up handy. Has a stack of ability and looks well placed to resume.
