Morphettville Tips – June 27
Race 1 11:31am FURPHY HCP (1550m)
FRANCE’S BOY Black Booker who’s been good to us, he and Anna Jordjso return to the same track/distance of their most recent success. Smallish field that could turn this into a tactical affair, not to matter as France’s Boy can roll along at a strong tempo or take a sit if Anna does so choose to. Either way he still finishes off best of these.
Race 3 12:41pm SCHWEPPES HCP (1400m)
ROYALTY back to his own age group and comes in 3rd up under our well tried X42 system. Only lightly raced, it looks as though the 1400m will suit following on from last start where box seated 1250m here and kept bullocking his way forward rather than sprinting sharply as he attempted to pick up another of our Black Booked winners in Just Kappy. Finishing 3rd behind Royalty was Vacant Block who we wrote into the Book following last weekend’s Saturday review so clearly I’m rating the form out of this race very highly (last start city winner Beeokay finished off behind them just to prove the form as well). Physically imposing sort with a big girth, I’d think he’ll have no problems getting out to further while coming back to 3yo grade. Hopefully another X42 winner!
Race 5 1:51pm GRANT BURGE HCP (1300m)
SIMPLY DREAMING another from the Black Book, in her case we’ve just had to hold rather than bet as we were on France’s Boy last start with the mention of Simply Dreaming’s new forward running style just has her over racing a bit and would prefer her back to the 1300-1400m which she gets today. Leisurely front running jump out at Strathalbyn since and Sophie Logan taking the reigns for the first time will need to be on her toes because this mare can be a little tardy away plus it’s easy to over do it out in front on her. Good test for Sophie from an outer draw in a smallish field that includes some smart mares.
Race 6 2:31pm CAUDO VINEYARD HCP (2250m)
BERTWHISTLE would be the highest rating chance all day, albeit with a sight question mark over her success on affected tracks. Don’t believe what’s on paper tells the full story there and I’m happy to bet on her current form this prep where all four runs have rated highly to benchmark. First up not beaten far to France’s Boy over the mile in a BM86 before stepping out over 2500m on a Soft 7 in the Listed Port Cup where she finished 4.4L off subsequent Andrew Ramsden winner Oceanex. Really caught the eye between runners on a Soft 5 back to 2035m 3rd up in the Listed Centaurea closing to within 1.6L off Oasis Girl who controlled the race to perfection out front. Notification came through that Kayla Crowther will attempt to settle further forward from her wide draw last start here 1950m on the Good 4. Ended up doing the donkey work taking the field up to runaway leader Budget King, Bertwhistle was far too strong under the big weight for Exalted Ambition with those two putting a gap back to the rest. All of these races have rated with Bertwhistle running good times to the 600m and kicking strong through the line relative to benchmark on the day. Ready to tackle this trip with a now senior Kayla Crowther on board and drawn to get the run of the race throughout.
