MOUNT GAMBIER TIPS – JUNE 14
Race 1 12:50pm STEELINE MOUNT GAMBIER/SABOIS 2UP MAIDEN PLATE (900m)
MISS GATSBY presented a treat here on the 22nd April and was well backed late. Was to be Jacob Opperman’s first race ride, unfortunately a false start ensued when one of the runners gates didn’t open. Miss Gatsby ran away with the non race and while we can’t take anything from it form wise, I must she really was presented to the races by trainer Jenny Gow-Whyte as a winner. She’s had an 8 week let up since and with the fitness plus education base she had going into the break I doubt she’s lost much. First up last time just missed to Deforce this track/distance on a Soft 6, a repeat of that performance should see Miss Gatsby going close here under Libby Halliday.
Race 5 2:55pm CARLTON DRAUGHT BM66 HCP (1400m)
TERRITORY TITAN comes straight from the Black Book from his last start in town when he was a little slow to muster then never found clear running at any stage. This came off the back of a fast run 2nd up effort behind Jacobite Prince and I was pretty keen on him last Saturday. This may technically be a step back to country class from metropolitan, however this is a very strong event with the top three or four city class on their day. Finds his preferred softish conditions, just not sure the inside barrier suits as he has been slow into stride previous starts.
Race 6 3:25pm SCOTT GROUP OF COMPANIES BM66 HCP (2084m)
HASTA LA BULLET found some serious form with a strong win 2000m Naracoorte then powered away 2400m Murray Bridge. Thought we were home on him momentarily 2500m in town before Franked came off his back to pick him up with momentum. Never much chance in the Listed Port Cup following start also 2500m and I thought he was okay enough to fill a minor placing 1550m Bordertown. This suits back out to a trip, just his record on Soft tracks a worry though is a winner in Heavy going.
