Murtoa Tips July 15 – Meech the key at Murtoa
- Murtoa Racing Preview
Monday racing is at Murtoa, we have an nine-race card on a Heavy 9 track and the rail is in the true position. Linda Meech is the best jockey at the meeting and she has a strong book of eight rides, including my best bet of the day in race four.
Race 4 – 2:00pm Samios Plumbing Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate (1200m)The three-year-old daughter of Toorak Toff, RAKTOFF can break her maiden status in race four at Murtoa on Monday. She led on debut at Donald and although she stuck on well for fourth, she was still learning what it was all about and probably didn’t have the fitness base under her to lead all the way over 1200m. She was given a 132-day spell and resumed at Moe three weeks ago, she took a sit on this occasion behind the talented Just Remember This, peeled out at the top of the straight and just missed in a driving finish behind Mikey’s Turf. The race didn’t rate that well vs the day but she did run 0.2 lengths below the class benchmark, which is close to the best last start figure in the race. She should improve second-up and looks fit enough for Linda Meech to roll to the front. Although barrier 15 looks bad on paper, I really like it for a horse like her. Statement Piece (barrier 13) is the only other horse who should be looking for the lead and those two can roll forward easily from their outside barriers and with a reliavely short straight at Murtoa, I’m expecting Raktoff to be very hard to beat with Linda Meech on board, who has nine winners from her last 50 rides with a positive ROI of 63.9 percent.
