Race 6 – 3:50PM EASY PAYROLL GLOBAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Team Snowden saddle-up their three-year-old SEVENTH SEAL in this event and he should find this a lot easier than his last start. Fresh off a 38-week break, he hit the ground running at Canberra, winning his maiden by almost two lengths on a heavy track. He franked that effort next start, winning a BM58 over 1200m at Goulburn by more than a length and on a good track that day, proving his versatility. Last start, although stepping up in grade, he wasn’t the same horse and after sitting second on the turn, he weakened badly to finish tailed-off. He has had a three-week break now and welcomes a new rider with Jeff Penza to partner him today. He has drawn wide here but there is plenty of early pace inside him, giving Penza the choice of where to put him. Given he finds a sit mid-field or better, he should be in the firing line in the run home. Forgiving him for that last start, he does look a promising type and is great each-way value here.
Race 7 – 4:25PM PRIME7 CONDITIONAL BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
The James Cummings-trained WHISPERED appears to have overcome his problems and provided this is the case, he looks a real threat in this. Resuming from six-months in the paddock, he showed plenty of toe in the run home when winning a Class 2 over 1400m at Kembla Grange. At his next two starts, he lacked that dash and despite racing up in grade, didn’t appear as ‘hungry’ as he was first-up. Last start, he travelled to Newcastle and was back to his young self. In BM70 company, Cummings announced he would be ridden further forward that day and sure enough, jockey Grant Buckley had him settled in third place (albeit three-deep without cover after drawing wide). With 60kgs to carry, he still finished strongly to fail by a whisker, taking home second prize, beaten a head on the line. He draws a little better today and the Lonhro gelding looks very competitive in this line up. I am confident the Godolphin three-year-old can win here.
