Race 3 - 3:10PM YARRAMAN PARK CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1890 METRES)
The Kim Waugh-trained DEEL STREET (best odds $9 with Sportsbet) boasts a resume that suggests she is more than an equal chance of knocking off the red-hot favourite here. Last start, the Dundeel mare was second-up off a lengthy 27-week break when she finished last in a Class 1 over 1500m at Hawkesbury. While those stats don’t look so pretty on paper, A peep at the replay shows she was doing her best work late, and she finished within two lengths of the winner, posting the fastest final 600m and 400m sectionals for the event. She also ran that final 600m, 4.7 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Ash Morgan returns for his second ride on the mare and steeping up in distance today looks ideal for the four-year-old. Her only career win came on this track and she is already a winner when third-up. She maps to settle in the first half-dozen and is drawn inside the whit-hot favourite (Jesse James) who makes his track debut today, and is stepping up from a mile for the first time. The mare meets him 2kgs better and stranger things have happened, just look at Raaki’s result in the Might And Power last Saturday. The stats say it is possible so watch for Deel Street’s big finish here.
Race 4 - 3:45PM SHARP OFFICE F&M CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Locally-trained by Nathan Doyle, NORWEGIAN BLISS (best odds $1.70 with BlueBet) made an impressive debut to racing at Port Macquarie and looks nicely placed here to go back-to-back today. The El Roca mare lined-up in a field of ten on a Soft 6 over 1100m and drawing wide (gate 9) was trapped deep and travelled three off the fence without cover to the turn. She made it look easy from there as she took over inside the last 200m and went on with it to score by 2.5 lengths on the line. She ran her last 600m, 5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here. She was sent out a white-hot $1.65 elect that day and will most likely start near that today. Down in weight here, Ash Morgan sticks with her and ideally drawn in gate two, she looks the testing material.
Race 6 - 4:55PM OAS TECHNOLOGY CG&E CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride makes the three-hour trek north up the M1 today and saddles-up TORINDA here (best odds $3.70 with bet365) who is in great touch of late and looks a genuine winning chance. Last start, the Tornado gelding was having his seventh crack at breaking through when he lined-up here, in a 1400m Maiden. With Rory Hutchings aboard, he settled outside the leader and looked to have his measure. Carrying top-weight (59kgs), he eventually took control and went on to a comfortable half-length win in the end. He ran the trip, 4.9 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best here and set a new personal best for himself as well. His only hurdle here is the wide draw as he maps to settle near mid-field so race tactics from Hutchings should prove interesting. With a trouble-free run here, the five-year-old is at his peak now and as a last-start winner at the track, he will give this a real shake today.
