The John O’Shea-trained COMME BELLA FILLE is second-up today and looks in the mix in this company. Last start, the former New Zealand filly was having her first start on Australian soil (after two Randwick trials) where she came from back in the field to finish sixth (of 12) in a BM64 over 1350m at Wyong. Her run to the line was impressive as she covered her last 600m 3.3 lengths quicker than benchmark and posted the fastest final 200m sectional as well. She can only improve on that and here she drops in grade and has Rachel King sticking with her today. She is expected to settle back in the field as the speedmap suggests and the step up in distance will also increase her chances of winning. She looks well placed and should prove hard to hold out today.

Despite a late riding change here (Tommy Berry is unwell and not riding today), The Team Snowden-trained GLOBAL QUEEN still looks the cream of the crop here and should be winning. Last start, the Snitzel filly was fresh off a six-month absence when she lined up in a Class 1 over 1200m at Kembla Grange. On fresh (and no doubt rusty) legs, she came within a whisker of victory, nailed on the line by a swooper in the end. She ran the trip, 4.8 lengths above benchmark, the second-best in this line up. The three-year-old will strip fitter today and can only improve on that first-up effort. This is a top pick-up ride for whoever lands it (rider unknown at time of publication), and after drawing gate one here, they will have to be at their best here to run her down today.

Warwick Farm galloper ASTERO lines up here with a ton of potential and looks the best of the day. Last start, the Zoustar gelding lined up at Hawkesbury for his first race in six months. He has a heavy track to deal with that day but it mattered not as he strolled past the leader half-way home and went on to a half-length victory in the 1300m Class 1 event. He ran the trip, 5.3 lengths above benchmark, the second-best here but ran his last 600m 4.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line up. He also posted the fastest overall sectionals on the wet track that day. Kathy O’Hara sticks with him for this event and from gate three, he maps to enjoy a déjà vu run, settling behind the pace again. Fitter today, the promising three-year-old will be a real handful for this lot and he looks the goods in this contest.
