Race 5 - 4:15PM KNK BUILDERS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Best Value ?No. 5 ILVERMORNY $14.00 Bet Now!
Kembla Grange galloper, ILVERMORNY steps back up in distance today and at the weights, looks a solid each-way chance here. Two starts back, the Americain gelding proved too good for a Class 3 field over 1200m at Goulburn as apprentice Madison Waters steered him to victory, leading all the way. Then last start, he dropped back to the tail of the field (after drawing gate 9 of 11) and from there was always going to struggle. Still last on the turn, Waters had nowhere to go, as she stuck to the inside and was continually blocked for a run. He still hit the line well, and although finishing mid-field in the end, ran his final 600m 3.2 lengths quicker than benchmark. Ideally drawn today, from gate four, Waters should push forward and have the five-year-old settled somewhere in the top four of five. From there, she should manage to avoid any trouble and given clean air on straightening, the gelding should be doing his best work from there. He is a winner over 1450m and a two-time winner on wet tracks. Plenty of boxes ticked here for a horse who sits at double-figures in the market.
Race 6 - 4:50PM COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS @SCTC BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Best Bet ?No. 5 DEVIL DAN $7.00 Bet Now!
A dual acceptor today, if he runs here, DEVIL DAN looks the testing material (after several other chances are now out). Also nominated as an emergency in race 5 today, A final decision has not been made on where he will line up (at the time of writing this preview). Should he run in this event, he is drawn to give this field something to chase. Resuming from a lengthy 29-week spell, he surprised punters first-up when winning a Class 1 over 1400m at Kembla Grange as a $16 chance. He jumped in front and slapping on the speed, put five lengths on the field early, running his first 600m 1.9 lengths quicker than benchmark. On straightening, he was challenged for the lead but showed plenty of fight to shake that off and go on to win by a length on the line. He steps up to the mile here and drawing gate three, could be dictating the pace again. The Tavistock gelding will strip fitter for that first-up run and if he is left alone, he could easily repeat the dose again, and at good odds today.
