Race 1 - 1:35PM EDDIE LATTA MEMORIAL - CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Third-up today, Warwick Farm-based MISS BARTY’S PARTY (best odds $2.70 with Sportsbet) looks set to make an impact in this contest. Last start, the Dream Ahead mare was second-up and unlucky not to home the winner’s cheque in a Class 1, here over 1000m. Last on the turn, she spotted them five lengths on straightening and passed all but one in the run to the line, beaten half a length in the end. She ran the trip, 6.9 lengths slower than benchmark, the equal-best here and that was a new personal best for the mare. She also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the event. Mitchell Bell has his first ride on the four-year-old and fitter for those two runs back, the rise in trip looks ideal at this stage of her campaign. As our Best Bet 🏆 for Nowra today, she should prove hard to hold out here.
Race 2 - 2:10PM PINK UP BERRY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Having his ninth crack at breaking through today, the Goulburn-based galloper CHARLEMAGNE (best odds $2.90 with BlueBet) is fitter for two runs back and looks well placed here to achieve that goal. Last start, the Real Impact gelding took on the big guns at Randwick where he lined-up in a 1250m Maiden on the Kensington track. Settling back in the field, he ran home well but just found that field a little hard to get past on the day, finishing mid-field in the end. He ran his last 600m, 1.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Back to the bush today, Brodie Loy is reunited with him and he boasts two podium finishes from his two rides to date. The three-year-old sports a lugging bit for the first time and has placed when third-up previously. Ideally drawn on the fence today (after scratchings), he looks the one they have to beat here.
Race 5 - 4:00PM BEDE MURRAY MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
The Paul Murray-trained CRYSTAL WATERS (best odds $3 with BlueBet) is back here for the second time and will out to go one better today. Last start, the Ambidexter mare was first-up after spending six months in the paddock when she finally broke through for her maiden win over 1300m at the Hawkesbury track. She ran that trip, 5.7 lengths slower than benchmark, a new personal best for her and the best in this line-up by more than 6 lengths. Winona Costin returns for the ride today after five previous rides ended with three minor placings. Drawn in gate five today, the mare maps to settle in the first four and with a genuine pace on here, she can get the better of this field and go back-to-back.
