Warwick Farm galloper DUTCHESS ADELE failed badly last start but looks much better placed here in country class today. After finishing a close-up fourth at Hawkesbury two starts back in a BM64 on a rain affected track, the Adelaide mare then took on similar company at Kembla Grange last start where conditions were fine and dry. She settled second that day, and was still there on the turn, but then weakened out of it, possibly suffering from ‘second-up syndrome’. She should find this a little easier and appears to be back in her comfort zone, racing in the wet. Both career wins have come on wet tracks and she also welcomes back Shaun Guymer who was aboard for both those victories. I believe we will see a different horse today.

Third-up today, the Jamie Stewart-trained MR MAGICAL returns from a stint in the city and looks better placed here. After missing by a whisker at the Sapphire Coast two starts back (on a Heavy 8), the Magic Albert gelding then found himself at Royal Randwick last start, taking on a Highway Class 2 over the 1000m sprint. Settling back in the field, he found the task of running them down a little too big, finishing mid-field, beaten just under four lengths that day. He still managed to run a new personal best, covering the trip, 3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by 8 lengths. Today, he carries the same weight against country class and has John Kissick back aboard (who was there for that Sapphire Coast ride). Drawn nicely in gate five, he maps to be in the first half dozen and will relish the bog track placing twice previously in heavy conditions. He looks the pick of the bunch today.

A dual-acceptor at Scone today, if the Tulloch Lodge mare FRANKLY SAVVY runs here, she will prove very hard to beat in this line up. The lightly-raced four-year-old will be having just her third race start and is fresh off a six-month break today. After three very ordinary trials, she made her debut on the Canberra track and punters still sent her out a well-supported $4.80 chance. The money was good as she clobbered her maiden rivals that day with Winona Costin in the saddle and on a Heavy 10 as well. The Savabeel mare then backed that up by finishing a close-up third next start in a Class 1 over 1400m on the same track. She hasn’t raced for six months but has trialled recently, in Open company at Hawkesbury. She has plenty of early dash and is reunited with Costin today. One from one with Costin, and one from one in the mud, she is hard to tip against today.
