Here are our Penola tips for today:
Race 1 - 12:55PM The Midfield Group Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)
A little surprised by the early price about GYPSY CROWN (Best Odds Currently $8 with Bet365). Thought that was a handy maiden field when placed here second-up. She showed handy enough gate speed to roll forward into a good spot. The couple of Hickmott horses who led are no slouches, and Gypsy Crown put herself between them towards the business end. The winner had the cold sit to beat tip them all out with momentum. The follow-up run at Oakbank since was similarly good, and Gypsy Crown can give another strong showing here.
Race 2 - 1:30PM Betty Fowles 100th Birthday Celebration F&M Benchmark 62 Handicap (Heat 8 Viddora Series) (1100 METRES)
Ryan Balfour holds a strong hand in this heat of the Viddora Series, and we’ll be siding with KUNGKA MARU (Best Odds Currently $6 with Sportsbet). Can go on with it now after settling much handier to break her maiden at Oakbank last start. We’d expect the Good 4 track to very much favor those up on the speed, so it’s nice to know she can use some gate speed. Australian Rules of Racing submit that no horse is permitted to race twice in two days. As such one wonders why markets have come out late Saturday afternoon with Indian Gazelle as a short-priced favorite despite going around at Morphettville. Would love to bring you a realistic price guide on Kungka Maru, we’ll have to sit tight and see how hard the “deductions” hit.
Race 6 - 3:55PM TAB Benchmark 62 Handicap (Heat 4 Skybeau Series) (2100 METRES)
The obvious Best Bet for the day would seemingly be ALL HARD WOOD (Best Odds Currently $2.45 with Bet365). Has raced consistently well for John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs this prep, culminating in a strong win in town two runs back. Can roll forward and sit on the speed, or as we’ve seen of late is comfortable dropping in for a trail. With the 60kg impost today, would think Jeff Maund rolls forward from the tricky gate early to control the race. Should something kick up for him to drop in with the trail, then even better for us.
