Pinjarra Tips – March 30

Race 2 – 11:40AM DEVIL’S LAIR HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
It is a massive day of racing at Pinjarra with 12 races in store and an early winner shapes as the Adam Durrant-trained NORDIC KING in Race 2 of the day. The lightly raced five-year-old showed some promise earlier in his career but wasn’t quite at his best at his last campaign. But his first up run was promising when he stepped out at Pinjarra over the 1500m on March 12. On that occasion, he was sent out an easing $15 chance but caught the eye in the closing stages of the race, running on from 10th at the 400m to finish within a length of the winner. He has drawn barrier 1 and a positive lead is the booking of Willy Pike, who can cuddle him in the early to middle stages before launching at them late. If we take his first up run on face value, he is well worth a crack at the $3.90.

Race 6 – 2:10PM PIMM’S HANDICAP (1412 METRES)
This shapes as an interesting race as the former Victorian, Confluence, lines up for his first start in W.A. But I am going for the Fred Kersley-trained RESISTANCE, who has been racing in excellent fashion in recent times and seems to save her best for the Pinjarra track. The five-year-old lined up in the $70,000 Pearl Classic at the venue three starts ago and was doing her best work late when landing in the runner-up slot behind Flower Of War. She then got too far back in a slowly run race when finishing on the heels of the placegetters over the 1400m when 6th to Kakadu. At her most recent start, she was too good for them at Class 3 level over the 1500m at the venue. She has drawn wide in her quest to go back to back but her normal pattern is to get back. There looks to be a fair bit of pace in this with the likes of Pirates Mistress and Next Stop The Moon among a group in the big field that like to push forward. With Peter Hall on board, she can launch at them late.
