Queanbeyan Tips

Looking for Queanbeyan race tips? Our form analyst previews racing at Queanbeyan and provides his best bets for the meeting.

Here are our Queanbeyan tips for today.

Trained by the Barbara Joseph Team, topweight MERC looks well-treated at the weights here and may take beating again. Unwanted in the market last start, the Knight Exemplar gelding was first-up off a six-month absence as he lined up in a Sapphire Coast maiden over the 1000m sprint. With Patrick Scorse aboard for the first time, he led on settling and fought like a caged tiger to ward off the challenges in the run home and prevailed to record his first win. Drawn in gate two again, he looks to adopt similar tactics here as he sees the Queanbeyan track for the first time. Placed twice on dry tracks, he looks well placed here to go back-to-back today.

Track conditions tell us a lot about a horse’s chances in racing and today is no exception. Another from the Barbara Jones team is IN MY WALLET who made it abundantly clear last start that wet tracks are ‘off the list’ in her books. In Class 2 company on a heavy Sapphire Coast track, she finished sixth, beaten 10 lengths in the 1600m event. With two previous unplaced efforts on heavy tracks, she has been beaten a total of 32 lengths in those three heavy track starts. I believe the message is very clear now. Go back to the start prior to the Sapphire Coast failure where the Eurozone mare raced here, on a Good 3 that day, where she finished too strongly for them in a Class 1 over 1460m. Today, a Good 4 is forecast and from gate five, she looks ideally placed in this line up. Now a track and trip winner, with conditions to suit, she looks in her element today.

The locally-trained CANFORD CALLING has found his mojo recently and that form suggests he is a big show in this field. After winning a similar event here three starts back, the Canford Cliffs gelding then went back-to-back as he stepped up to BM58 class with both wins recorded on dry tracks. Last start, the seven-year-old brought up his first-ever top-three finish on wet tracks (from 11 attempts), when finishing second in a BM50 over the mile at Braidwood. Today, he draws well but faces a battle with several runners here who have good early gate speed, leaving him to possibly having to take a sit on settling. Michael Heagney has been the pilot every start this preparation and remains in charge here. If the pace is genuine, and Heagney opts to take a sit, he could have too many guns for them in the run home.
