Queanbeyan Tips – May 17
Race 2 – 1:10PM JERRA HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)
Sydney trainer Clare Cunningham saddles up ARADHANA here and it could turn out to be third time lucky for the three-year-old. Two starts back, the filly showed good gate speed to lead on settling. Then under hard riding, she kept going to the line but was grabbed just short of the line by Our Sweet Love. As (bad) luck would have it, last start it was déjà vu for the filly. Again, she led on settling and looked to have pinched a winning break. However, she was claimed on the line again, this time by Riverina Demand. Here, she lines up for the third time at the track and after four starts should be as fit as can be. It’s a real family affair here as Cunningham is jockey, Jason Collett’s partner, and who better to put on board than Collett’s sister Alysha who is having her first ride back in Australia after returning from a stint in Singapore (shortened by the current pandemic). Together, they look a winning chance here.
Race 3 – 1:45PM HOTEL QUEANBEYAN BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Locally-trained by Joe Cleary, HARD CORE is third-up here and looks ready to pounce. After finishing unplaced, first-up in a BM66 at Goulburn, the gelding lined up against similar company at the same track and trip last start. Fitter, the four-year-old showed plenty of improvement and with Kathy O’Hara aboard for the first time, was an unlucky second, just finding Catapult a little too good on the day. Third-up here and even fitter, the 1200m looks ideal for the track specialist and he looks right in the mix.
