Racing Bet of the Day – March 17
CRANBOURNE – Race 3 – 2:30PM FRANKSTON MAZDA 3YO MAIDEN Plate (1500 METRES)
It’s hard to go past COMMODUS here after he finished 7.8 lengths from Alligator Blood in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m). The Uncle Mo gelding still ran 6.9 lengths quicker than standard BM over the mile which is 14.4 lengths quicker than any other last start figure in the race and 7.8 lengths quicker than anything Tuesday’s rivals have done in their short careers. Trained by Mark Sues, Commodus now drops back to 1500m which should suit seeing he faded last start, while he also races on his home track for the first time. There is no early speed in Tuesday’s event with all runners rating at midfield to backmarker early tempo, and if Commodus can go a bit slower early than last time, he can still cross and lead without a great deal of pressure being likely. $2.60 looks a fair price, and with peak fitness on his side, Commodus will prove hard to beat.
