SAPPHIRE COAST TIPS – june 7
Race 4 – 2:15PM JAZZ FESTIVAL SPRINT (1208 METRES)
The very consistent HARD CORE is three starts into this preparation and should be at peak fitness for this contest. The All Too Hard gelding has finished top-three in seven of his past nine starts and recent efforts suggest he is a good chance in this company. Two starts back, he looked the winner, but was grabbed on the line, finishing second in a BM66 over 1000m, beaten a neck. Then last start, he lumped 60kgs over the longer 1200m trip at Queanbeyan in similar company, and was unable to hold off the late challenges, finishing third that day. Kathy O’Hara was aboard for both those rides. Here, he is reunited with Jess Taylor for the first time this year and she has tasted success with him previously. He has some work to do from barrier eight but is well compensated here, carrying 5kgs less than last start. Unbeaten at the track, he looms as a solid each-way chance here.
Race 5 – 2:55PM MERIMBULA JAZZ CUP (1608 METRES)
Finishing top-three at his past three performances, ASSAULT ‘N’ BATHORY looks well-placed here and the pick of the day. Three starts back, the Murtajill gelding destroyed a BM70 field at Canberra. Leading all the way, he gave them a galloping lesson, winning the 1600m event by 4.5 lengths in the end. He then applied the same tactics in the Parkes Cup (1600m) and looked the goods until he was run down late, and had to settle for third prize that day. Then last start, he took on city class at Canterbury where he lined up in a BM70 over 1550m. He carried 58.5 on a Heavy 9 and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in the 10-horse field. He returns to country class here and looks the one they have to beat.
