Scone Tips – January 14
Race 4 – 3:40PM SEGENHOE STUD CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1350 METRES)
Race 4 at Scone is a Class 3 over the 1350m and the Scott Singleton-trained PARTNERS should go very close to claiming this one. The frontrunner has been good without breaking through in his current campaign, placing in two from four starts, while he wasn’t far away when 4th at Newcastle last time. He carried a big weight at Class 2 level at Scone two starts ago and stuck on well for 3rd when pressured from home a long way out. In his most recent race he was run down in the closing stages by Rockin’ Ruga. A key to his chances in this is that there doesn’t appear to be too much speed around him and he might get an easier time of it out in front in comparison to his past few runs. The step up in distance shouldn’t hold too many concerns and he has won one placed in another from two attempts at the trip.
Race 7 – 5:30PM COOLMORE AUST. CLASS 2 HANDICAP (900 METRES)
We close out with a Class 2 for the speedsters over the 900m journey and TANGO STEPZ can bounce back over the shorter trip. The three-year-old has had six starts and registered a strong win at the track and distance two starts ago, showing a nice turn of foot at the business end to win from Invincible Kiss. She then headed to Gunnedah and struck trouble in the straight when fading to finish 7th over the 1000m. The daughter of Sidestep showed some talent in her initial preparation and while she missed out at her last start she does look to have a bit of upside compared to those she meets in this race. She has the early speed to overcome the wide gate and with the five weeks in between runs she should be hard to hold out.
