Stephen Jones saddles-up the well-bred NADARAJA here (best odds $1.95 with BlueBet) who looks a serious chance of landing the hat-trick today. Last start, the Redoute’s Choice gelding came straight off his Maiden win and took on a Class 2 field, here over 1100m. That turned out to be a procession as he led from barrier to box, putting more than five lengths on them over the line. He ran the fastest final 800m sectional, covering the trip, half a length slower than benchmark, the best in this field. He managed all that after jumping from the outside gate (11). He is up in weight today (as you would expect from that demolition job last start) but is drawn better here and has Matthew Palmer remaining aboard for the ride. Only bad luck here will rob him of another victory.

With both stablemates (Surjin and She’s Independent) scratched today, the Paul Perry-trained HARLEM GROOVE (best odds $3.90 with Unibet) is the sole flagbearer for the stable here and looks the goods in this contest. Last start, the nicely-bred Flying Artie gelding faced his first heavy track in a BM58, here over 1300m. Jumping from the outside gate (9), he was trapped wide most of the way and pushed even wider on the turn, he still finished strongly and did best to grab victory on the line. He ran the trip, 3 lengths slower than benchmark in the conditions which is still the best in this line-up. Up in grade today, he drops 2kgs and is back on top of the ground as Alysha Collett retains the ride. The extra distance looks ideal at this stage of his preparation and unbeaten on the Scone track, he looks set to keep that record intact.

A big field of 14 faces the starter to end the day’s racing with Taree galloper STANDING BEAR (best odds $6 with Sportsbet) looking a solid winning chance at odds. Last start, the Smart Missile gelding came off a four-week let-up when took on the big guns in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes at Randwick. Up against arguably the best sprinters around, he finished seventh (of the eight runners), more than eight lengths behind race winner, Nature Strip. Despite the result, he still ran the trip, 7 lengths quicker than benchmark, 11 lengths better than this field. He also ran his last 600m, 12 lengths quicker than standard which 8 lengths quicker than his rivals today. This is a massive drop in class today and from gate six, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. He was a winner in this class three starts back at Grafton and with Ben Looker aboard, he does line up here a solid each-way chance today.
