Locally-trained by Stuart Kendrick, BONAPARTE (best odds $4.20 with Unibet) is third-up today and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a genuine winning chance. Last start, the Pierro gelding couldn’t match it with the city gallopers in a Class 3 over 1200m at Doomben. He finished fifth of the seven runners that day but still ran his last 600m, 2.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the second-best in this line-up. Drawn the fence here, he has Ryan Maloney in the saddle for the first time and gets the gun-run from there. He is a winner when third-up and a two-time winner here at Corbould Park. Fitter for those first two runs this time in, he is our Best Bet 🏆 of the day on the Sunshine Coast today.

Formerly with the Kurt Goldman stable in Goulburn, TICKLER (best odds $5.50 with Unibet) is having his second start for the new stable today and looks set to go one better here. Last start, the Deep Field gelding saw the Corbould Park track for the first time and it was under lights as well. Box-seating on settling, the pace was quick with the leader out by four lengths to the turn and went on to take it out, with Tickler finishing a gallant second, beaten a head on the line. He ran the trip, 4 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Ryan Wiggins was aboard that night and rode the gelding a treat. Wiggins sticks with him here and from gate three, maps to box-seat again. Second-up here, he will strip fitter and he looks a genuine winning chance in this line-up.

The locally-trained JUST A PATSY (best odds $7 with Sportsbet) is coming off four-straight podium finishes and stepping up in class here, still looks a solid each-way chance today. Last start, the Unusual Suspect gelding stepped up sharply to take on a Class 3 field, here over 1800m. He travelled well in running and looked all set to challenge in the run home; Unfortunately, he hit the running rail at the 300m mark, and lost all momentum and any chance of winning at that point. He still battled on gamely to grab third prize in the event. He ran the journey 4.4 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field and a new personal best for him as well. Drawn nicely in gate four here, Marnu Potgieter sticks with the four-year-old and dropping back to Class 2 company today, looks great value in this contest.
