Warrnambool Tips – June 2
Race 7 – 3:30PM BAILLIE LOGISTICS BM58 HANDICAP (1700 METRES)
Race 7 of the day is a BenchMark 58 over the 1700m, and TEE TRAIN can go close at his third run back from a spell. The locally trained galloper hasn’t had the best of luck in his two runs this time in and saw plenty of rump when stuck on the inside at Werribee when first up, finishing 4th to Right You Are before being well beaten by the impressive Killavally at Casterton on May 17. In that race, he was shuffled back in the middle stages and was held up at the top of the straight before closing off to finish a five-length runner-up behind the tearaway. He has been pretty good in the last 600m of his two runs and the step up to the 1700m should suit. He was close up at Bendigo over the 1600m when third up last time before producing a big win over the 1700m at Geelong, while in his only run at the track and trip he was placed at BM64 level. He will strip fitter for recent outings and the 1.5kg claim for Campbell Rawiler is a boost to his chances.
Race 8 – 4:00PM FRESH FLOWER MARKET BM58 HANDICAP (2350 METRES)
Race 8 is over the stayer’s distance of 2350m and GREY KHAN looms as the one they will have to run down. The Peter Gelagotis-trained galloper broke through for a win in this grade at Geelong over the 2440m on May 15, leading all the way to defeat Sign Seal Deliver and Fioritura. On that occasion he was able to get away with a bit of an easy time of it out in front before holding on in the dying stages. With the lack of a genuine pace in this, there is no reason why he can’t repeat the dose. He is likely to push up from barrier 9 and gets the weight relief this time with the 1.5kg claiming apprentice, Will Price, to ride. He is capable on wet tracks, running quicker than benchmark over the 2400m at Caulfield last preparation, while he was a narrow runner-up a Geelong in a BM64 earlier this preparation over the 1750m journey on the Heavy.
