Race 4 - 3:38PM SATTS PLANT HIRE AND HAULAGE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
Orange galloper HOW’S IT KEV (best odds $3.80 with bet365) is way overdue for a win and he gets his best chance here today. Last start, the Zariz gelding put in his best effort to date when he beat all but one home in a Maiden Plate on his home track over 1400m. He took over on straightening and looked home but was grabbed in the shadows of the post, beaten a neck on the line. Rachael Murray has been aboard in all four starts this preparation and has the reins again today. He is ideally drawn here in gate three and maps to settle better than mid-field (most likely on the fence). At his peak now, if he gets the breaks in the run home, he should be hard to beat.
Race 6 - 4:47PM KEIRLE'S PHARMACY CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
It could be a big day for Rachael Murray if she can steer BILLABONG ISLE home (best odds $2.35 with Sportsbet) here today. Last start, the Mikki Isle filly made it back-to-back wins when she came off a big Maiden win (3 lengths) to then claim victory in a Class 1 contest, both at the Dubbo track. She did it tough that day, covering more territory than Bourke & Wills as she travelled four-wide without cover the entire trip. Challenged in the run home, she fought on gamely and got the nod on the line. Drawn much better today in gate five, she maps to settle just behind the pace, a lot closer to the fence this time, and even fitter here, she looks the best of the day.
Race 7 - 5:22PM WELLINGTON BOOT CARNIVAL 25-27 MARCH BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
The Bob Howe-trained BYZANTIUM (best odds $4.40 with Sportsbet) hails from Mudgee but is a track specialist here and looks poised to strike again today. Last start, the All Too Hard gelding made it win number three on this track when he clobbered a BM50 field, putting 2.5 lengths on them in the 900m contest. Anthony Cavallo was aboard that day, having his 36th ride on the seven-year-old (from a career-51 starts). He boasts six podium finishes from ten starts here and drops 2kgs today as well. From gate six, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and looks a better than even chance of bringing up the hat-trick today.
