Race 5 - 3:35PM IN MEMORY OF S/C DAVID JOHN MANSFIELD CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100 METRES)
Five starts (without a win) this campaign and the Chris Waller-trained ZUDIN (best odds $3.10 with Sportsbet), looks well placed here to change all that today. Last start, the Redoute’s Choice gelding stepped up in distance and put in his best effort this preparation when he beat all but one home in a BM64 over 2100m at Gosford. He ran the longer journey out, 1 length quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the event. He drops back to Class 1 company here and James McDonald sticks with him as well. It appears the longer journey appeals more to him and over a similar trip today, he should prove hard to hold out.
Race 6 - 4:10PM TAB.COM.AU BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1350 METRES)
Gosford galloper CAMP RIFLE (best odds $2.70 with Ladbrokes) is also a track and distance winner here and looks poised to add another victory to his resume today. Last start, the Shooting To Win gelding came off a brief Brisbane campaign when he stopped off on the way home to contest the Bowraville Cup. An easing favourite for the event $2.15 – $3.50), it made little difference as he finished best to take home the coveted trophy. No benchmarking stats are available from that meeting but he did manage to run the fastest final 200m sectional for the event. Ideally drawn in gate two today, he maps to get the gun-run behind plenty of early pace here and Jason Collett in the saddle (for the first time) he looks right in the mix today.
Race 7 - 4:50PM POLICE REMEMBRANCE DAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
Hawkesbury galloper GRACE BAY (best odds $11 with Sportsbet) is fresh off a six-month break and her first-up record suggests she can give this a real fright at odds today. The Per Incanto mare ended her last campaign finishing third in the Provincial Championships Heat at Hawkesbury, before lining up in the Final at Randwick where she drew wide and was never on the track, finishing unplaced in the event. Although out of the money that day, she still ran the trip, 6.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by 6 lengths. Drawn the fence today, she gets the gun-run here and has two first-up wins to her name already. With Jason Collett aboard, she looks a solid each-way chance here.
