This looks to be a bit of a confidence builder for KEEP ON BOPPING. The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper has had the four career runs and has placed in all four of those. In his two runs this preparation he has filled the runner-up slot at Pakenham over the 1000m. The most recent of those came on March 4 in a five-horse field and he raced a tad keenly that day but closed off well to land a length behind Mysterious Art, producing the fastest last 400m and going 5.9 lengths slower than standard, which is better than what any of these have produced in their careers. In his only career run over the 1200m he went 2.7 lengths faster than standard at Morphettville last year, while he should get the gun run from barrier 4 with Ben Allen to ride.
The feature is the Yarra Valley Cup and DABIYR can run a bit of a race at his first run back from a spell. The Chris Waller-trained galloper has not been seen since finishing down the track in the Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington behind Persan but he was rock solid at his first couple of runs in the spring, placing behind Romancer over the 1600m before landing in the runner-up slot over the 2040m at Moonee Valley after that. He went nearly 13 lengths faster than standard benchmark in his first up run last time and was very strong late in the piece. At his previous first up run he was luckless over the 1600m at Randwick before winning over the 1800m. The son of Redoute’s Choice is likely to push forward on what looks to be a muddling tempo and with Michael Walker in the saddle he can go close at nice odds.
