Happy Valley is one of two racecourses staging feature horse racing in Hong Kong with the other being Sha Tin racecourse.

See below for the horses to follow from the upcoming race meetings at Happy Valley.

The Francis Lui-trained SHINING ON is in career best form and it should pay to strike while the iron is hot. Last start, the O’Reilly gelding beat home a Class 4 field, here over 1200m, getting home in a tight finish. He ran that trip, 3.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. Vince Ho has a wealth of experience in the saddle, with 26 rides on the seven-year-old already and remains with him tonight. He is a track specialist with all four career wins coming on the Happy Valley track. He looks the one to beat again.

Caspar Fownes saddles-up ROYAL BOMB here who ticks enough boxes to match it with race favourite Wealthy Delight in this event tonight. Last start, it was a muddling run race with the Zebedee gelding forced to lead due to a lack of pace. Then passing the 800m, Wealthy Delight took off and circled the field, taking over as pacemaker. It was then he hampered Royal Bomb who nearly fell trying to avoid the new leader’s heels. On straightening, jockey Chris Soumillon lost control of the galloper who ended up in the middle of the track and did well to finish as close as he did, in fourth place. While running the trip 2 lengths slower than Wealthy Delight, he still finished it off, 3 lengths quicker than benchmark and without a repeat of the trouble he ran into, he can better that effort tonight. Drawn the fence here, that should help avoiding any possible dramas and he should manage a perfect sit with cover. Vince Ho takes over in the saddle tonight and we should see a different horse in this contest.

Stablemate to Shining On, SUNNY STAR is also in good touch of late and looks well placed here to go back-to-back tonight. Last start, the Flatter gelding took advantage of the chaos in the race that Wealthy Delight and Royal Bomb contested, and ended up finishing over the top of that field, winning by almost two lengths on the line. He ran the trip, 6.5 lengths slower than benchmark which was less than a length slower than topweight Savaquin in his last-start win over the same trip. Tonight however, Sunny Star draws much better than the race favourite who has to deal with gate 10 and 60.5kgs which could take its toll here. Alex Badel retains the ride and settling in front of Savaquin, will take catching at the weights.
