Race 2 - HANG HAU HANDICAP (CLASS 3) 1200M
Frankie Lor’s galloper, THE RUNNER ended his last campaign on a high and looks well-placed here to pick up where he left off. The Snitzel gelding has been in good touch of late, winning two of his past four starts. Four starts back, he won a Class 4, here on this track over 1200m, before stepping up to Class 3 company. He finished just behind the placegetters at his first two runs at the higher level, before surprising many at nis latest start where he beat home the very talented California Rad. With Vince Ho aboard for the first time, he gave ‘the Rad’ two lengths start (in the run home), and a beating as he finished the stronger that night, coming home more than seven lengths better than benchmark. He broke 1:10 for the 1200m (running 1:09.2) with the 7kgs weight advantage clearly coming into play that night. Ho sticks with him here and from a nice draw (gate 5) he should prove hared to hold out again.
Race 5 - LEI YUE MUN HANDICAP (CLASS 3) 1650M
The Caspar Fownes-trained LIGHTNING STEED will be looking to bounce back here after missing a top-three finish last start as a $3.70 favourite. After stringing back-to-back victories together here, he then sent out an even-money favourite two starts back, which was his first attempt at the Class 3 level. Over the longer 1800m trip, he beat all but Golden Spectrum home with Matt Chadwick aboard. Then last start, Joao Moreira took the reins as the California Dane gelding came back to the 1650m trip where he hit the line well, but not strong enough to beat the placegetters home that night, finishing fourth, not too far away. Drawn the fence here, Chadwick returns to the saddle and he should get all the favours from that draw and prove hard to hold out in this contest.
