Bets of the Day — Wednesday 4 November

Overview

The Wirrulla Boy is the best bet of the day: a last-start winner with a win and three placings from four runs at Port Lincoln, and a live price of $2.25 with Ladbrokes in Race 3. Of the horses with a market up, this is the one with the strongest course form behind it.

That is three selections from one meeting, Port Lincoln, out of the three we previewed: the best bet, the value bet and the quaddie anchor. The best and value bets are priced. Chef Militaire, the quaddie anchor, runs in Race 8, and that market wasn’t open when this was written.

The best bet

The Wirrulla Boy, Port Lincoln Race 3, 1:45PM, 2.25 with Ladbrokes.

The Wirrulla Boy won last start, the only run in the last 90 days, and has finished in the first three at three of four Port Lincoln starts. Brooke King rides for Byron J Cozamanis, who has placed with 14 of 38 runners at the track. The weight is 56kg over 1000m in the Streaky Bay Hotel (Bm70).

The danger is Charka, also a last-start winner, with a win and two placings from two runs here and two kilos less weight. At $3.90 with Unibet, Charka is the saver. But The Wirrulla Boy has twice as many starts at the track, and that is why we prefer The Wirrulla Boy for the win.

The value bet

Broadway Lane, Port Lincoln Race 4, 2:20PM, 4.20 with Neds.

Broadway Lane has finished in the first three at five of the last six starts and has a win and three placings from four runs at Port Lincoln. Jemma Gutte rides for Jackie Stoetzer, who has trained five winners here, and the weight is 57kg.

The market has Tornado’s Sister favourite at $3.60 with Bet Right after two eighths in a row, and that is where the value comes from. Broadway Lane‘s form is more reliable and the price is longer. Lapilli, with Kayla Crowther aboard, is the danger at $5 with Bet Right.

The quaddie angle

Chef Militaire, Port Lincoln Race 8, 4:40PM.

Chef Militaire has won three in a row, all within the last 90 days, and has three wins and five placings from six runs at Port Lincoln, the best course record of any horse in our three previews. Race 8 is the third leg of the Port Lincoln quaddie (Races 6 to 9), and this is the leg to take a single in.

The concern is weight. Chef Militaire carries 60.5kg, and It’s A Solid Deel, also a last-start winner, gets in with 52.5kg. We think the form is good enough to carry it. Around Chef Militaire, our preview has Go Ask Alice and Equine Headline in Race 6, Minato and Utah in Race 7, and Strawberry Swing and Only One Ruler in Race 9.

How these were picked

All three selections come from our full previews for Kyneton, Port Lincoln and Coffs Harbour. Where two horses were close, we chose the one with a live price.

Seeyou Raider, the Kyneton NAP, and Grassburn, the Coffs Harbour NAP, both have strong recent form, but their races weren’t priced when this was written, and Chef Militaire had the better case for the quaddie. Zweigelt in Race 1 at Coffs Harbour, $2.50 with Neds, came closest to the best bet slot, but has one win from five runs in the last 90 days. The Wirrulla Boy has the better course record. White Hot Mama at $15 with Bet Right is the bigger price, but Broadway Lane‘s recent form is far more consistent, so Broadway Lane gets the value slot.
