Overview
Showmara has won two of its last three starts and finished second in the other, and it steps out in the Central Coast Nsw Legacy (Bm64) as the clearest form horse on the Gosford card. The catch is that it has been here once before and missed a place, so the case rests on what it has done elsewhere since.
The track is rated Good To Soft for a seven-race Thursday program that starts at 1:20PM and finishes at 4:50PM. Three of the seven are maidens, the middle of the card has two races over 1600m, and the Toukley Plate over 2030m is the staying test. These Gosford racing tips go race by race, pick out the riders and stables that do well here, and finish with a quaddie through Races 4 to 7. Only Races 1 to 3 had live prices when this was written, so the odds quoted below come from those three races.
Gosford: the setup
Limited course form across today’s fields. Nobody on the card has been to Gosford more than twice, so the horse table stays out. Firework is the only runner with two visits for a win and a second, and Federal Reserve and Edge Of Midnight both won at their only start here.
The riders are a different story. C Schofield has won six of 14 rides at the track, the best strike rate of anyone riding today, and J R Collett has finished in the first three on seven of ten.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| J R Collett | 10 | 2 | 7 | 20.0 | 70.0 |
| C Schofield | 14 | 6 | 9 | 42.9 | 64.3 |
| Ashley Morgan | 18 | 4 | 10 | 22.2 | 55.6 |
| Regan Bayliss | 15 | 4 | 8 | 26.7 | 53.3 |
| K S Latham | 26 | 4 | 13 | 15.4 | 50.0 |
| William Stanley | 14 | 3 | 7 | 21.4 | 50.0 |
| R Hutchings | 9 | 1 | 4 | 11.1 | 44.4 |
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nacim Dilmi | 13 | 6 | 10 | 46.2 | 76.9 |
| Nathan Doyle | 18 | 4 | 13 | 22.2 | 72.2 |
| Peter Snowden | 11 | 3 | 7 | 27.3 | 63.6 |
| Michael Freedman | 13 | 3 | 7 | 23.1 | 53.8 |
| G Waterhouse & A Bott | 18 | 2 | 9 | 11.1 | 50.0 |
| Brad Widdup | 28 | 7 | 13 | 25.0 | 46.4 |
| Joseph Pride | 22 | 5 | 10 | 22.7 | 45.5 |
| C J Waller | 28 | 5 | 12 | 17.9 | 42.9 |
Nacim Dilmi is the standout: six winners from 13 runners at Gosford, and ten of them in the first three. Brad Widdup has trained the most winners here of today’s stables, and when the stable books C Schofield the pair have won two and placed in three of their four Gosford runs together. Nathan Doyle doesn’t win as often as Dilmi but places nearly three runners in four.

Gosford race by race
Race 1: Paul Finn Memorial Midway Hcp (C1), 1:20PM, 1200m
The market has Sapling at $1.95 with Unibet, and that price is built on the stable more than the horse. Nacim Dilmi‘s Gosford record is the best on the card, but Sapling comes off a ninth at its latest start and hasn’t won in the five runs on its form line. W Costin has ridden here 11 times without a winner.
Sun To Me is the one we want. It won two starts back and ran second last time, the only two runs in the last 90 days, and Regan Bayliss has won four of 15 Gosford rides. The 59kg on top is the knock, though over 1200m on a Good To Soft track that is less of a worry than it would be over further. At $5.50 with Bet Right the price is fair for a horse in form.
Prince de Vega gets in light with 53kg and has placed twice from four runs in the last 90 days, so it is the danger at $6 with Bet Right. Firework, the only runner with two Gosford starts for a win and a second, is the each-way roughie at $12 with Unibet. Win bet on Sun To Me.
Race 2: Central Coast Community News Super Mdn Plate, 1:55PM, 1200m
Does experience beat an unraced Waterhouse runner? Stonecrest heads the market at $2.30 with Bet Right without having raced, and G Waterhouse & A Bott have placed with half of their 18 Gosford runners. Tim Clark rides.
Thyme To Go has the form. Placed at three of five starts, including a second and a third at the last two, for Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald, and Tom Sherry rides from barrier 1. At $3.30 with Unibet it is the pick of the experienced runners. Pearl Of Dubai, $2.90 with Bet Right, has a form line that opens with two seconds and a third, but it has finished fifth, eighth and fifth since, even with J R Collett and Peter Snowden‘s strong course record behind it.
Small win bet on Thyme To Go, with Stonecrest the danger.
Race 3: Creightons Funeral Service Mdn Hcp, 2:30PM, 1100m
Vintage Bell, Profit Calling and Elska are scratched, leaving eleven.
Lions Eyes has had two starts and run second at both, the kind of form that usually turns into a win at the third go. Bryce Heys has a small but useful Gosford record with a win and three placings from four runners, and Mollie Fitzgerald rides. The 61kg is a lot for a maiden, but it is the weight of a horse the handicapper rates. At $4.80 with Bet Right, Lions Eyes is the win bet.
River Inferno is the stable move. Brad Widdup and C Schofield team up on an unraced three-year-old at 55.5kg, and that combination’s Gosford record is the best on the card. At $5 with Unibet, River Inferno is the danger. Usain Boss is the $3.60 favourite with Bet Right after four placings and no wins from five starts in the last 90 days, including seconds at the last two. That is a place horse until it proves otherwise. Win on Lions Eyes, saver on River Inferno.
Race 4: The Grand Saddles Provincial Mdn Hcp, 3:05PM, 1600m
Belle Chanteuse has had two starts, a fourth and then a third, and steps up to 1600m for Brad Widdup with C Schofield in the saddle again. That booking and the improvement from first start to second make Belle Chanteuse the pick in an ordinary maiden, carrying 57.5kg from barrier 10.
Cool Summer Nights brings the most experience. Third last start, placed at four of five runs since a let-up, and Nathan Doyle sends it out with Ashley Morgan, who has four wins and ten placings from 18 Gosford rides. It has 59kg and barrier 1, which should give it the run of the race. What A Gent has run second at two of three starts and is the other one to have in the quaddie.
No prices were up for this race. Belle Chanteuse to win, with Cool Summer Nights the danger.
Race 5: Central Coast Nsw Legacy (Bm64), 3:40PM, 1600m
Showmara and Unbridled Storm are two different types, and both are right in this. Showmara is the form horse of the meeting: two wins and a second from the last three starts, and two wins and three placings from four runs in the last 90 days. Alexandre Lemarie trains, Siena Grima rides at 57.5kg. Its one previous visit to Gosford was unplaced, so the track is the question, not the form.
Unbridled Storm is the consistent one. A win and three placings from four runs in the last 90 days, third last start, and barrier 1 for C J Waller with J R Collett, who has won one of two rides together here and placed in the other. It has 59kg.
Federal Reserve won its only Gosford start but has one win from five runs in the last 90 days and carries 60kg for Nacim Dilmi. Back Showmara to win, with an exacta both ways with Unbridled Storm.
Race 6: The Ary, Toukley Plate (C1), 4:15PM, 2030m
Eldiron is scratched. Over 2030m, Liyah’s Girl has the most reliable recent form: a win and three placings from five runs in the last 90 days, with two seconds before a fifth last time. Matthew Smith trains and C Schofield rides, the best jockey at the track on today’s numbers, at 57kg.
Scoish Maloish is the improving three-year-old with 55kg. It placed at its only Gosford start, finished fourth at the last two, and K S Latham has hit the frame on half of 26 rides here. Don’s Party at 59kg is the other to cover. This is not a race for a big bet. Liyah’s Girl each-way.
Race 7: Mr & Mrs Duggan 44th Anniversary (Bm64), 4:50PM, 1100m
Chemtrail and Sapling are scratched. Ex Wife won last start and has a win and three placings from four runs in the last 90 days, which is the best recent form in the field. It carries 60kg for Glen Milligan with Zac Wadick, who has no winners from ten Gosford rides, and that is the only part of the profile we don’t like.
Edge Of Midnight is the course winner. It won at its only start here, its last three runs read a win, a fourth and a third, and P M Perry gives it 57kg with Siena Grima. Scuro Star is the lightly raced one: a win and a second from two starts for Peter Snowden, whose Gosford runners place more than six times in ten, with Tom Sherry aboard. Portico, third at the last two for Michael Freedman, completes the list. Ex Wife to win, with Edge Of Midnight and Scuro Star in the exotics.

Where the money goes
NAP: Showmara (Race 5, 3:40PM). Two wins from the last three, and a second in the other. Nothing else at Gosford comes in with that kind of run.
Value: Sun To Me (Race 1, 1:20PM), $5.50 with Bet Right. A win and a second from its two most recent runs, against a $1.95 favourite whose latest run was a ninth.
Banker: Belle Chanteuse (Race 4, 3:05PM). Improved from fourth to third in two starts, gets 1600m, and has the Widdup and Schofield combination in an ordinary maiden.
Each-way: Firework (Race 1, 1:20PM), $12 with Unibet. A win and a second from two Gosford starts, the best course record in the race.
Course angle: Follow C Schofield. Six wins from 14 Gosford rides, and today the book includes River Inferno and Belle Chanteuse for Brad Widdup, plus Liyah’s Girl for Matthew Smith.
Quaddie (Races 4 to 7): Belle Chanteuse, Cool Summer Nights and What A Gent; Showmara and Unbridled Storm; Liyah’s Girl and Scoish Maloish; Ex Wife, Edge Of Midnight and Scuro Star.
If Schofield keeps winning at this rate on the Central Coast, the Widdup rides here won’t stay at double figures much longer.
