Overview
Win To Retire has finished in the first three at four of its last five starts, won the most recent of them, and won at its only Gawler start. It heads the Sportsbet Racing Form Hcp (60) over 1706m in Race 6, and it is the horse we want most on a seven-race Thursday card.
The track is rated Good. The first race jumps at 1:56PM ACDT and the last at 5:32PM, with two maidens to open, a 2112m Class 1 in the middle and a 15-runner benchmark 56 to close. These Gawler racing tips cover all seven races, the riders and stables with real numbers at the track, and a quaddie through Races 4 to 7. No bookmaker had a market up for the meeting when this was written, so there are no prices quoted below. Two runners are out: No Mans Land in Race 4 and Royal Fox in Race 7.
Gawler racing tips: reading the card
Course form is thin. Only five of today’s runners have been to Gawler three or more times, and none of them has won more than once here.
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Torrita | 3 | 1 | 3 | 33.3 | 100.0 |
| Prancethrulife | 3 | 0 | 2 | 0.0 | 66.7 |
| Maysoonfly | 3 | 0 | 2 | 0.0 | 66.7 |
| Hamner Springs | 4 | 0 | 2 | 0.0 | 50.0 |
| Born To Shine | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0.0 | 33.3 |
The riders give us more. Rochelle Milnes has five wins and 14 placings from 27 rides here, the best combination of volume and strike rate on the card. Brooke King has also won five, from 21 rides. Connor Murtagh has ridden here more than anyone in today’s book, 36 times, but for a single win.

Gawler race by race
Race 1: LJ Hooker Property Specialists | Gawler & Barossa Mdn Plate, 1:56PM, 1706m
Nunya has run second at each of the last two starts, and in a seven-horse maiden that is the best recent form in the race. Both runs came inside the last 90 days. Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor have trained three winners from 18 runners at Gawler, and Jackson Murphy, who rides, has three wins from 16 rides here.
Mizzen Jib is the danger. The last start was a second too, and Mizzen Jib placed at the only Gawler run for Sarah Rutten. MS C Jones rides from barrier 1, the shortest way round. Ateyate finally ran third last start after five fifths in a row, and is more of a place chance than a winner. Win bet on Nunya, small saver on Mizzen Jib.
Race 2: Contract Engineering Mdn Plate, 2:31PM, 1200m
S G Padman doesn’t bring many to Gawler, but they run well when they come. Khorasan is the Padman runner here. Working back from the latest run, the last four starts read second, fifth, third, second: three placings from four runs in the last 90 days. Kayla Crowther has four wins from 26 rides at the track and starts from barrier 2.
Little Rocket is the one to worry about, resuming from a break with a second at Gawler, the only time it has raced here. MS T Johnstone has placed on six of her 16 rides at the track. Artful Maximus has placed at three of the last five starts, including a third last time, and keeps knocking. Back Khorasan to win.
Race 3: Kingsford Hotel Hcp (C1), 3:06PM, 1200m
Does one win at Gawler count for more than three seconds elsewhere? Oasis has only two starts in the form line: an unplaced run, then a win here last time. W A Bogarts has a winner from three runners at the track, and Ashlee Stone rides at 57kg.
Maysoonfly is the reliable one. Three straight seconds before a fourth last start, two placings from three runs at Gawler, and A J Gluyas has had eight of 13 runners here finish in the first three. J Holder rides. What Maysoonfly hasn’t done is win at the track.
Sir Castleton won the only start here and has Jacob Opperman, who has won three of his eight Gawler rides, but carries 59.5kg off a fourth. Oasis to win, and Maysoonfly is the each-way play.
Race 4: Gawler Self Storage Plate (C1), 3:41PM, 2112m
With No Mans Land scratched, this 2112m race is between a horse that keeps placing and one that knows how to win. Green Summer has run third at each of the last two starts, has placed at both Gawler starts, and has Jake Toeroek, who has finished in the first three on half his 14 rides here. S P Gower has placed with five of nine runners at the track.
Magic Voyager is the contrast: a win two starts back, then a sixth. Todd Pannell rides from barrier 1 for Michael Hickmott, who has placed with five of nine runners at Gawler. Miami Miller won the only start here, but the last two runs were a fourth and an unplaced effort.
Green Summer is the steadier bet over a trip that will test them. Each-way on Green Summer, with Magic Voyager in the exotics.
Race 5: Magain Fielke Real Estate Gawler Hcp (56), 4:16PM, 1100m
Hard to have a strong view in this one. If forced, Kindra Park, with a third, a fifth and a third at the last three starts, two placings from three runs in the last 90 days. Kindra Park draws barrier 2 at 55kg with MS S Metcalfe, and G Dimitropoulos has a win and two placings from three runners here.
Prancethrulife has the better course record, two placings from three Gawler runs, and Jon O’Connor has placed with seven of his 12 runners here. The last start was a disappointing run out of the placings, though. Atomic Time won three starts back but carries the 60kg topweight. Small each-way on Kindra Park, or watch it.
Race 6: Sportsbet Racing Form Hcp (60), 4:56PM, 1706m
Win To Retire has been building to this. The last five starts read second, third, fourth, third and then a win, so four of the five ended in the first three. The horse has also won at its only Gawler start, so the track holds no fears.
The connections fit too. Indianna Weinert has had six runners at Gawler for two winners, and Jake Toeroek, who rides, finishes in the first three on half his rides here. Win To Retire carries 58.5kg, a kilo and a half under the topweight. The concern is barrier 11 in a 12-horse field, which means either a lot of work early or settling back and needing luck.
The main danger is Mr Ribtickler. The last two runs were both at Gawler, a third and then a win, and Rochelle Milnes rides. She has won five races and placed on 14 of 27 rides here, the best record of any jockey on the card. The question is the 60kg. Mr Ribtickler carries the top weight off a win, from barrier 7, and that is a lot to give a horse in this kind of form.
The two have never met. The Punk Rocker has placed at both Gawler starts and won two runs back, so that is the one for third in a trifecta. Lillikins won the only start here and has Brooke King, but ran seventh last time.
Back Win To Retire to win, with a saver exacta Win To Retire over Mr Ribtickler.
Race 7: Holdfast Insurance Brokers (Bm56), 5:32PM, 1506m
Immortal Spirit and Torrita offer two different reasons to bet. Immortal Spirit has the recent form: five runs in the last 90 days for two wins and three placings, and two wins in a row before a sixth last time. Caitlyn Munro rides at 57.5kg from barrier 7 for G Karayannis, and Immortal Spirit placed at the only Gawler start.
Torrita has the course form: three runs here, one win and a placing every time, and Alysha Warren rides at 55.5kg for S G Padman. The problem is barrier 15 in a field of 15. That draw will scare some punters off, which is where the value comes from.
Goochee Gal has a win and two other placings from four runs in the last 90 days with Jake Toeroek, and Black Bugatti has three placings from four without a win. Win bet on Immortal Spirit, and Torrita each-way.

Where the money goes
NAP: Win To Retire (Race 6, 4:56PM). Won last start, placed at four of the last five, won at its only Gawler start, and carries a kilo and a half less than Mr Ribtickler.
Value: Torrita (Race 7, 5:32PM). Placed at all three Gawler starts, and the wide draw should keep the price up. No market was open when this was written.
Banker: Nunya (Race 1, 1:56PM). Two seconds in a row and only six rivals in a weak maiden.
Each-way: Maysoonfly (Race 3, 3:06PM). Three seconds and a fourth from the last four starts, and two placings from three at Gawler.
Course angle: S G Padman. Eight of eleven Gawler runners placed, with Khorasan in Race 2 and Torrita in Race 7 today.
Quaddie (Races 4 to 7): Green Summer and Magic Voyager, then Kindra Park, Prancethrulife and Atomic Time, then Win To Retire and Mr Ribtickler, then Immortal Spirit, Torrita and Goochee Gal.
If Padman keeps placing three in every four at this rate, the stable’s Gawler runners won’t stay at fair prices for long.
