Race 3 No. 6 ORTEGA- ($2.10)
Some unknowns with a couple of first starters in action, including Flycatcher, but I am willing to roll the dice on ORTEGA. He was a bit slow out of the blocks when resuming with a 5th at Caulfield behind Flying On A Limb but showed improvement last time at Sandown when 3rd over the 1200m behind Refreshing. The Michael Kent-trained galloper led them up at a fast tempo in that race and was taken on a long way out before sticking on for 3rd. The son of Rich Enuff went 2.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is nearly nine lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner, while he went 5.4 lengths faster than standard at his run prior to that. He has the speed to overcome the barrier and will be ridden by Wiremu Pinn.

Race 8 No 3 THREE RINGS- ($3)
THREE RINGS can go close at his first run back from a spell. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper was solid at his two runs in town last autumn, finishing 3rd at Moonee Valley before running 5th behind Lord Paramount at Sandown. He was excellent from well back at the Valley then was posted wide at Sandown. The drop back to the 1000m looks like it will suit and early market support suggests the son of Zoustar will be ready.
