Race 5 No. 5 SEND IT ($3.15)

Murray Bridge trainer Karen Byrnes has SEND IT going around second-up at Balaklava Racecourse on Wednesday. She trialled well for Emily Finnegan who had a good hold while she coasted to the line clear of Flying’ For Us. Neither horse was asked of much in the trial which they completed in good time to the day. We were left pulling our pockets open and wondering where the cash went as Send It flew home for third last start. We’re still wondering due to the market opening Send It as the race favourite after we took double figures about her last time. It is what is and we’ll stick as Nicola Yeun takes some vital weight off the back of such a small mare.

Race 3 No. 14 OFF THE CUFF ($5.50)

We would have liked to have seen OFF THE CUFF take the bit and hit the line a little harder in her first race start for the Jordan Frew stable. She hasn’t really shown to do so in the past and her run was full of merit under the circumstances. Anna Jordsjo found a handy spot the fence from her not far off the speed before having to change course deep into the straight. Off The Cuff should have finished at least a touch closer as she ground her way towards the line. Drawn to find a similar position again which appears to be the place to be as we come into the meeting. Frew applies the winkers which may sharpen her up and Off The Cuff should also appreciate getting out to the 1400 metres.

Race 7 No. 13 THE CASSINI ($6.25)

This race would seem a slight drop back in class for THE CASSINI following his third place over this track and distance last start. We have three maiden races on the card for Balaklava Racecourse on Wednesday with the other four races rated no higher than a BM58. The sheer number of horses with only one career win to their name running around tomorrow highlights the depth of the racing. The Cassini is one of those and we’ve chosen to rate him ahead of Super Contender whom he met last start. There was not much in the margin between the pair and we’re expecting some more pressure up front for Super Contender to deal with again.
