Ballarat Tips 4/7/2023

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 2 No. 7  PRIVATE ISLAND- ($2.40)

PRIVATE ISLAND should be hard to beat in Race 2. The Ben & JD Hayes-trained galloper has had the two career runs and has finished runner-up in both of those. She just ran out of steam late on debut at Kyneton behind Boyfromwye, who has since come out and won again, while there was a solid gap back to 3rd. At her most recent start, the daughter of Pariah was outclassed by the promising Smokin’ Princess, again having plenty in hand on the 3rd horse. That came over the 1500m on the Synthetic at Ballarat and she went 1.5 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is seven lengths better than the next best figure of any runner. She will settle handy in the run and should be hard to get past at the business end.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 8 No 1  RED PHANTOM ($3)

RED PHANTOM can make it back to back wins when he steps out in the final race of the day. The Nick Ryan-trained galloper tackled the Synthetic for the first time on on June 23 at Ballarat over the 1400m and settled handy before winning by more than two lengths from Le Ferrari. He looked very comfortable on the surface and went 0.9 lengths faster than standard. The son of Estidhkaar comes into this third up and might have improvement to come. Rhys McLeod rides and the pair draw barrier 4.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 6 No 5 SAVOIE- ($6)

This looks to be a suitable assignment for SAVOIE. The seven-year-old has not won in more than a year but comes in with some good form for this, having placed at his past couple, which have been at the rack and trip. He drops down from a BenchMark 64 on June 23 and joined in the lead at the 200m mark before being outgunned late by Look Sharpish. This looks easier and he will be close up in the run from barrier 5.
