BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 5 SUNBRONZED – ($4)
The David Harrison trained SUNBRONZED got the better of us as we took him on with Safekeeper in a Pinjarra maiden. We felt the filly had trialed marginally the better leading in and would have the pace to find the outside rail from her inside gate. Instead it was Sunbronzed who showed the superior gate speed to hold a position nearer to the outside up the straight five at Pinjarra. Shaun McGruddy allowed the stronger gelding to work into his stride before overpowering Safekeeper close to the line. Think the rise to 1200 metres may suit Sunbronzed as he hunts down Cheeky Charlotte who was far too sharp for Safekeeper at Ascot last start.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 1 DIVINE FLIRT ($4.85)
We’ll be looking for a race-to-race double for the Harrison stable when DIVINE FLIRT resumes at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday. Harrison has taken the three-kilo claim of Zephen Johnston-Porter aboard his mare who has not been seen publicly since running a close-up fourth at Belmont to Malkar Pindari over seven furlongs. Divine Flirt was a first-up winner on affected ground when last in work. That was over this track and trip against a reasonable field with Austin Galati taking three-kilo’s off of her top weight of 60kg. She was well tried in the market that day, finding an easy lead through the early stages. Galati didn’t move when taken on through the mid-section of the race, instead electing to stalk the new leader Forever Classic. Divine Flirt proved too strong in the run home and is also well-suited by racing on top of the ground.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 10 ENSIGN PULVER ($16)
We’ll go with ENSIGN PULVER as our roughie in the last of six races at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday. He has fared slightly better than race-favourite Lord Gannicus who will appreciate a bit more speed in Wednesday’s race. That horse got back from a similar wide gate last time while Ensign Pulver had the speed to cross from a similar gate. Lord Grannicus was getting home when it was all over while Ensign Pulver continued to whack away behind the placegetters. Ensign Pulver found nothing in the straight when the pair met at their previous start when Lord Gannicus powered down the outside to run second behind Dennis Choux. The formlines of those two races should hold in this, and just feel that with the gap in the market, coupled with racing styles that Ensign Pulver should not be left out of the numbers.
